[Harry Potter] Drowned Winter

She wanted to die, and she wanted to go to Paris. - Gustave Flaubert, Madame Bovary

In the winter of 1985, Eglantine Lestrange arrived at 12 Grimmauld Place to attend Walburga Black's funeral. Before she left, a filthy House-elf suddenly appeared and prostrated itself at her feet. Following the orders of its late young master, it returned a ring to her.

It was the engagement token from her fiance, Regulus Black, who had died six years earlier.

The heroine is of French descent in the Lestrange family, from the same branch as Leta Lestrange in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Theme: There is often only a hair's breadth between sincerity and lies.
