/Father-son rivalry over the heroine, a tangled love triangle
Heroine: a flirtatious, innocent-looking sweetheart
Two male leads: a steady, cool-headed father figure / a gloomy, obsessive puppy (gradually turning dark)
[A chaotic summer, a song that ended in parting, never to be relived.]
Part 1: One day during summer break of sophomore year
As Xia Yining rode her bike downhill, her brakes failed, and she lost her balance, falling onto a young man.
Rong Zhining unexpectedly gave up his first kiss.
His heart stirred at the girl's sweet, delicate breath.
To make up for what happened, and to get closer to the girl he had developed feelings for, Rong Zhining invited Xia Yining to his home.
Hearing his unusual surname, Xia Yining felt a flutter in her heart.
She studied the young man's sharply defined features, especially his deep, light-colored eyes... They looked so much like that person's.
With a trace of anticipation, Xia Yining went home with him.
Once inside, she was reunited with Rong Jia after two years apart.
Meeting those deep, pool-like phoenix eyes, she remembered the gentle yet cool woody fragrance...
Xia Yining felt as if she had returned to two years earlier,
to that summer when she and Rong Jia had briefly been in love.
Part 2: Two years earlier
The usually "well-behaved" Xia Yining had done two of the most outrageous things in her life, and both involved Rong Jia.
First, she met him by chance in a foreign country and fell for him despite their significant age gap.
Second, they got together, moved in together, and almost...
They escaped the world and loved each other after sunset.
Rong Jia had spent more than thirty years living with restraint and propriety. Faced with an unexpected romance, he felt guilty for being moved by her, yet was trapped in a painful sweetness.
They knew their relationship wouldn't last, but they deceived each other, hoping only to hold on to their brief days and nights together.
But just as the storm was about to break, Xia Yining chose to walk away...
At the time, she never imagined that two years later, when she saw him again, her heart would still race just as much,
and that she would give her heart to someone else, too.
Part 3: The rainy season will not return
Rong Zhining and his father, Rong Jia, had a poor relationship. He hated his father for neglecting him when he was a child.
Now, he hated him even more for wanting to steal away the girl he liked.
Rain poured down on the banana leaves outside the villa, the drops pattering against the window.
A casual touch was all it took to feel the dampness.
Rong Zhining didn't know how many times he had fallen into this storm with the girl he loved.
In the heat of passion, he noticed someone watching from outside the door.
His high-minded, sanctimonious father clearly cared to an extreme, a brooding darkness churning beneath his otherwise impassive expression.
Rong Zhining gave a contemptuous smile and thought:
So what if the two of you had something in the past?
The person she loves now is me!
Inside and outside the door, father and son met each other's eyes, their hostility undisguised.
Rong Jia's face was icy as he recalled the lemon candy the girl had fed him. He could hardly resist tearing apart the scene before him.
He could no longer stand it. He pushed open the door...
Reading guide:
1. As usual, both male characters are virgins in body and heart, and both are hopeless romantics.
2. The romance is one-on-one at different stages. Don't hold the heroine to overly high moral standards.
3. The author lets loose, so read at your own risk.
