Set in the Warring States era, the story follows a great general who, after successfully defending his country and bringing peace and prosperity to the people, finds himself with no place to use his skills. Then rumors spread among the common folk of a murderous fiend, and the emperor sends the general to capture him. He hopes this will also draw the general out of his isolation. Along the way, the general meets a well-connected expert from the martial world, and the two set out together to hunt down the culprit. A series of cases makes the truth increasingly elusive, changing both the general and his like-minded companions. There is growth, and there is pain. Is that not life itself?
