Deng Zaozao stood in front of a tumbledown thatched hut and stared in disbelief. Could anyone actually live here?

In the yard enclosed by a fence (if you could even call it a yard!) stood a thin, scruffy man. He was the very fiance Deng Zaozao had met once years ago.

Deng Zaozao was completely bewildered. What on earth was this? How had his handsome fiance turned into such a mess???

Deng Zaozao's parents were even more surprised than he was. How had the gentle young man, as warm as a spring breeze, turned into such a scruffy mess?

Deng Zaozao's parents brought their son over to see him. Ye Xunzhou wouldn't even let them inside. He limped straight out and immediately told them to leave, saying that he was a cripple and didn't want to hold Deng Zaozao back.
