A dark, unhinged prince x a gentle, warm-hearted ray of sunshine
Forced marriage // Stealing someone's partner // The pursuit after the breakup
1. One snowy night, Yue Chuwen took in a badly wounded young man.
As she changed his bandages, he leaned against the couch and listened to her chatter, responding to every word. His voice was warm and low, his manner refined and gentle, and he was always courteous.
Yue Chuwen assumed he was just an ordinary traveler fallen on hard times.
They went everywhere together, rode in the same carriage, and shared meals at the same table. The people at the medical clinic teased that the young man was like her shadow.
Several days later, he left in the middle of the night without saying goodbye, leaving behind only a jade pendant.
As winter turned to spring, on the eve of Yue Chuwen's wedding to her senior brother, an imperial decree arrived at the clinic after a thousand-mile rush. Prince Jing, Pei Yanshen, a famed war hero who struck fear throughout the court, had specifically demanded to marry her.
Everyone knew Prince Jing was cold and ruthless, decisive in killing, and had never shown interest in women.
That night, beneath brilliant candlelight, a jade scepter lifted her red veil. The man stood tall and straight, the veins on his clearly defined fingers faintly visible.
So... Pei Yanshen was the young man she had saved.
Thinking back on everything she had said and done, Yue Chuwen was nearly scared to tears.
Pei Yanshen's gaze was dark and deep. He pinched her chin, his thumb brushing her lips. "Why are you trembling?"
He pinned her to the couch and bit her earlobe, taking what he wanted without restraint. "I haven't even started... so why are you crying?"
2. After they married, Prince Jing became more and more obsessive and unhinged.
He forbade her from stepping outside the prince's residence alone, and wouldn't let her talk to any man, or even meet their eyes. Yet he insisted she stay with him every day and share his bed every night.
Yue Chuwen couldn't take it anymore.
So she ran away.
The third time he caught her,
Pei Yanshen sat quietly in the shadows of the carriage, his gaze cold as he toyed with her silver needles.
He said darkly, "Yue Chuwen, you dare run away for him?"
He gripped her struggling ankle in one hand. The more she struggled, the tighter his fingers closed.
Pei Yanshen leaned closer, his hoarse voice brushing her ear. "Have I not been trying hard enough, day and night?"
