Mei Xueyun met someone while filming on the street and ended up owing him a favor. Since she felt uneasy, she gave him a false name. Yan Dongyang couldn't forget the girl he'd met just once, but then he saw her proposing to someone at a high-speed rail station. When he finally got to know her, she gave him a fake name. One moment she closed her eyes and let him kiss her, and the next she said, "Let's pretend we never met."

On New Year's Day, which was also Yan Dongyang's birthday, their friend started a group video call.

Mei Xueyun saw half of his grumpy, scowling face. It was exactly as she'd expected. He had messaged her so early, only wanting a birthday greeting, but by now, she hadn't sent him a single message, either for the new year or his birthday.

Neither of them greeted or spoke to the other.

Their friend even introduced them to each other.

Everyone sent their New Year's and birthday wishes one by one.

At last it was Mei Xueyun's turn. "Wishing everyone health and good fortune. And... may Dongyang's happiness never end, and may he be happy forever."

Their eyes met and clashed through the video.

Yan Dongyang lifted the corners of his mouth. "Thank you, everyone. I wish you all everything you want, warm friendships through the cold, and a good person by your side on the road ahead."

After reuniting with her benefactor, Lou Siwei, Yu Xingchen tried all sorts of ways to be good to him, but it led to a misunderstanding. He thought she liked him and listed a whole bunch of evidence:

"You didn't want me to get scolded, so you told me to ask you whenever I had a question. You wanted to make me personalized study notes. You told me not to smoke or drink. You volunteered to investigate the truth and clear my name."

Lou Siwei listed each example, seeming to grow happier with every one. A smile had crept onto his face. "You bought me lollipops, too. Oh, and breakfast every day."

Yu Xingchen explained that she'd done all of that to repay his kindness.

Lou Siwei said, "Everyone knows that repaying a debt of gratitude usually means giving yourself to the person. How is any of that enough?"

"..."

Later, the whole school knew that Lou Siwei was passionately pursuing Yu Xingchen.

During the winter break before the college entrance exam, they promised to attend the same university.

"Pinky swear, no changing your mind for a hundred years."

"Seal it."

But as soon as the exam ended, their promise to never change their minds for a hundred years came crashing down. Yu Xingchen received a message from him: "Forget me. I only transferred to this dump because I was bored. I'm going back to a bigger world. Don't expect to see me again."

Seven years later.

When they met again, neither of them said a word. After that, neither reached out to the other. Yu Xingchen still relived the painful memory of being abandoned every day, as if punishing herself, using it to keep herself in check.

Until the truth from seven years ago came to light. If she had been in his shoes, she would have made the same decision.

Lou Siwei: "The stars shine brightly, but I ask for nothing. Xingchen alone is enough for me."
