Her father, whom she thought was named Kamo, is actually named Kamo. He is a sorcerer like an exorcist, so no wonder he knew her mother, who used to be a shrine dancer.
Because her parents were unfit to be adults, Mito seems to have been an unnecessary tragedy from the moment she was born.
When she was little, Mariko told her, "A dream is called a dream because you wake up from it." She warned her not to daydream: the better the dream, the more painful reality would be. Mariko's brief life jolted her painfully awake from a dream. From then on, Mito lived an utterly ordinary life, planting the seeds of her ideals and struggling to survive.
A dream is a dream because you wake up from it. The place where one can rest forever is an ideal land.
"How have you been lately, my child?"
"This wretched life is stubbornly persistent. Recently, every night before going to sleep, I close my eyes thinking, 'I'm about to die.' Then I open them the next morning and get another day."
"Well, just keep living for now."
In 1998, Mori Ogai named his "eldest son" Mori Oto, and it just so happened to be the Year of the Tiger.
1. The original inspiration for the tragic tone came from My Broken Mariko. 2. The main arc is a gender-swapped Uchiha Obito, Mito, nicknamed Usagi and Usami-chan. There are pairings, but no spoilers. I reject the constraints of performative online chastity. Sorry, Obito, I'll keep making up crack pairings for you this year.
3. The story contains mythological elements, so Chuuya's characterization uses the open-ended theory that he is "a safe sealing device for the Arahabaki god," but does not adopt it entirely.
4. HIGHLIGHT: Gender-swapped antagonists
■ Gender-swapped Akutagawa siblings: Akutagawa Ryunosuke becomes Akutagawa Ryunosuko, female; Akutagawa Gin becomes Akutagawa Ginosuke, male
■ Gender-swapped Chuuya: Arahabaki is a Valkyrie
■ Gender-swapped boss
An ensemble story, with my favorite Obito, gender-swapped as Mito, in the lead.
■ Main arc: Mito as the sole protagonist
Usami-chan toys with plenty of men. Her husband appears later in the story.
Usami-chan's husband: not revealing that yet
■ Secondary pairings: Dazai/Chuuya, Atsushi/Akutagawa, Fukuzawa/Mori.
[Please note: This is not a typical bundled set. It's four books with different pairings but the same world, so they're collected into one volume.]
The Diamond Girl began as Mito alone. In the sorcery-Bungo Stray Dogs crossover world she inhabits, the setting developed along with the plot and became highly polished. Then, after I watched Bungo Stray Dogs in 2024, I got into new pairings and realized I could write an ensemble story. So once Mito's chapters were finished, it was the other gender-swapped Diamond Girls' turn, and the story became an ensemble series of arcs centered on Bungo Stray Dogs.

Diverse tags
This story includes daily life, work, study, and playing with romance. Diamond, charge ahead! Use all material things, thoughts, feelings, and emotions as tools to serve me: the self comes first.
There is a range of sexual orientations here. Not everyone in the book has the same orientation, so I chose the diverse tag. Among the options for the diverse emotional framework, there is a plot-focused story where romance is irrelevant. Who would completely split plot and romance apart? I'm genuinely not good at writing romance. The plot is driven by everyday life and inner monologue, while romance is a tool that serves the protagonist, so the tag is entirely apt.
Men and women falling in love is just romance. Expanding romance to claim the definition of love is vile. The theme of feelings should be defined by the author, just like the one-line synopsis. Anyone who thinks love is everything is a fool.
Theme: The Diamond Girl Mito. Fire, sorcery, Bungo Stray Dogs, Mori Oto. Diamond, charge ahead! Use all material things, thoughts, feelings, and emotions as tools to serve me: the self comes first.
The name Mariko reminds me of my broken Mariko 😭 This movie is very good
