I Inherited My Master's Huabei from the Start!

A talkative little carp who focuses on her career x a sharp-tongued, shut-in, laid-back jiao who wants to lie flat

Also titled Building Dragon Gate from Scratch

Huai Jin transmigrated into the body of a carp spirit who had been fortunate enough to gain sentience.

The good news: In this not-so-scientific world, even a carp can ascend to immortality if it devotes itself to cultivation.

The bad news: This world believes that disciples must repay their masters' debts. Before she can ascend, she first has to help her sect repay the heavenly merit it owes, long overdue, on the Heavenly Dao's credit card...

By helping someone build a Dragon Gate.

Me? Build a Dragon Gate? Are you serious?

Huai Jin tremulously looked at her tiny tail and fins, then at the great river surging without end and the towering, steep mountains. At last, she resolutely turned her gaze toward the huge creature, half-asleep on the opposite bank.

First, I need to find a tough, thick-skinned guy to help me out.

"Hey, big guy, want to learn how merit can help you become a dragon?"

The black jiao, who had just opened his eyes and immediately been sold a pipe dream: "?"

Years later, the black jiao watched the long-legged carp, whose human form was still incomplete, happily running all over the mountains in the sunset's afterglow. He let out a deep sigh and pondered again a question he'd been asking himself for years.

How on earth did I end up on this fish's pirate ship?

A lighthearted, quippy story. The second installment in the Ruthless Dao trilogy.
