As the System's task-taker in BE worlds, Xin Yao is a benevolent bottom whose job is to tell the tops, at the start or end of each world, "Don't be sad. I forgive you!" Then he either gloriously bites the dust or turns around and cheerfully rushes off to his next task in another world. After hearing the cue, his tops move on with their lives.
But.
The twist comes completely out of nowhere.
After finishing a death scene in one small world, Xin Yao moves on to the next as usual. His top in that world runs him through the chest with a sword, and Xin Yao lies dying in his arms. Spitting up blood and barely able to speak, he delivers his usual line: "I don't blame you. I forgive you." Then he lets his head flop to the side, ready to make his escape.
But it's as if someone has grabbed his heart. His stopped heart starts beating again, and Xin Yao suddenly opens his eyes and wakes up gasping. The top holding him, who had been crying his eyes out, is so startled that he hiccups.
They stare at each other, both utterly embarrassed.
Before either can say a word, Supporting Character N, who has been a mere plot device all along, speaks up: "Young Hero Xin is only injured. His life isn't in danger. I will do everything I can to treat him."
Xin Yao turns his head with difficulty and stares at the troublemaking supporting character, confused. The man looks familiar. Supporting Character N smiles at him calmly and introduces himself: "Sui Jitong."
Well, now his name is familiar too.
Aren't you my top from the previous world?! You aren't supposed to be here! What's going on?!
