After Failing to Pass as a Beta, I Married My Roommate by Agreement

A beta from a remote village beats countless Alphas, placing fourth in the entire empire and earning admission to Imperial University, where he becomes a freshman in the School of Pheromones and Bioengineering.

He expects university to be a completely fresh start, but as soon as he enters the dorm, Sheng Ran realizes his new roommate is a customer he met while working a summer job...

But his new roommate doesn't look down on him. Instead, he helps him in all sorts of ways, directly and indirectly, and turns out to be the best roommate in the empire.

But Sheng Ran is hiding a secret: he's actually an Omega.

When an Omega is born in the empire, they are taken from their parents and sent to the White Tower, where they are raised together. After coming of age, they are matched and married to Alphas to start families.

Sheng Ran's parents have no other children and don't want to lose him, so they've always hidden his Omega identity.

During a volunteer visit to the White Tower, Sheng Ran is recognized by its chief lady officer as the child she lost many years ago.

There's no longer any way to hide Sheng Ran's Omega identity.

But reuniting with his mother means he'll have to leave Imperial University and enter the White Tower.

Sheng Ran refuses.

After hearing about it, the queen agrees to let Sheng Ran stay at Imperial University and finish his studies, as long as he marries an Alpha.

Looking over the list the queen gives him, Sheng Ran sees his roommate's name: Lu Yan.

Sheng Ran thinks that, rather than marrying a strange Alpha, he might as well choose Lu Yan. After all, they've been roommates for quite a while.

As they say, better to keep it in the family (not really).

When Lu Yan first hears that his matched Omega is Sheng Ran, he's surprised but not opposed to it.

But Sheng Ran soon suggests they marry just for the sake of an agreement, and the Alpha laughs in exasperation.

Fine. He agrees.
