The hottest new phrase on the Grand Line lately is "taming your childhood friend."

It all started when Monkey D. Luffy, a rising pirate star from the East Blue, punched Buggy the Clown away. With a fierce look in his eyes, he shouted, "...This is my childhood friend I've tamed!" Childhood sweethearts, pure and innocent. Such a beautiful bond always moves people.

"You rubber bastard! I've known Charls since we were kids!" Buggy shouted furiously, pointing at his own nose as his scattered body parts spun back together.

"Quit talking nonsense! I've never even seen you on Mount Colubo!" Luffy answered with an equally furious punch, his arm stretching out. The straw hat boy pulled his arm back, his face angry and gloomy. "Where the hell did you hide Charls?!!"

Then Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, Admiral Aokiji, and even Caesar, the terrifying genius scientist, all declared that they had a childhood friend they'd tamed. Even more unbelievable, once the fog lifted and the truth came to light, everyone discovered they were all talking about the same person.

As Luffy was beaten bloody, he stubbornly put himself in danger too. "Since you're so desperate for their approval that you're willing to risk your life, then I'll stay here and wait with you." His light green eyes reflected the boy's battered, bloodied state, and a daunting resolve shone in their depths.

"Waaah, Charls, don't! Go back... I, I don't want you to die too!" The boy, who had long since been too weak to struggle or shout, screamed again. Tears blurred his vision, turning everything into one blurry magnifying lens after another. His hoarse cries grew more anguished with every shout.

The only reply was a faint sigh.

Two bottles of milk balanced atop his curly black hair. Wearing denim overalls, the boy slowly handed one to the girl, who was about his height. "Here." "Oh, thanks! You're the best, Kuzan! I forgive you!"

"...You forgive me that easily? Honestly, I give up." The boy scratched his head helplessly, then casually asked, "So, what do you think? Are you coming with me to join the Marines or not?"

"Ehhh..." The final syllable stretched out like juice squeezing from a crisp green grape. The girl turned around playfully, clasping her hands behind her back. "Even though I hate the Marines... if you want to go, Kuzan, I'll go with you. It's not like I can stay with you past... mmph."

"Don't say the rest. We'll always be together, Charls." Kuzan covered the girl's mouth with one hand, the corners of his own mouth visibly turned down. As her figure grew ever more transparent and faint, he felt a profound helplessness, like he was at the bottom of the sea, with endless water crushing his lungs until all he could exhale were tiny bubbles.

Two brown horns grew backward, their tips curling into small, blunt loops. His black-purple hair streamed behind him as he ran, and he carried a pile of paper bags inside his lab coat. A bizarre, pale purple haze swirled around him. Caesar rushed toward the figure watering the flower bed. "Shurorororo, Charls, look what I got! Shurorororo~"

"What is it this time?"

"It's a drug from the North Blue that can change your blood and genes. If you take it, shurorororo..." Caesar floated in the air, circling the figure, but his unfinished words died when he met those light green eyes.

Gentle, sly, always gleaming with mischief, yet impossible to dislike. Her eyes curved slightly. "What? Caesar, you're working so hard that I'll start thinking you really like me~ In that case, even if it's all for nothing, I should still praise you properly~"

Amber-red eyes sat in tilted sockets, his mouth pursed downward into a big parenthesis. Strange features scattered across his dusky purple face gave him an uncanny, contradictory air. Just like now, the tall figure hunched his shoulders, like a defiant fox or a docile big dog. His tsundere attitude was plain to see, but his true feelings were lost in the way he expressed them.

"Hmph. Just behave and be my test subject, and hurry up and grow! What kind of person acts like a child all the time?"

If I don't develop it soon... she'll die. Black-purple hair hid his eyes as the bizarre scientist let out an equally bizarre laugh. The haze slowly spread, surrounding the girl with her hands on her hips. No. Caesar-sama's treasure was not something even the Grim Reaper could take away!

A red head and a blue head leaned close, one on each side, their eyes sparking.

"Hahahaha! Talking to Miss 'Ghost' again, Shanks, Buggy?"

"Charls would never do that! Only Shanks and I can see Charls! Charls would never leave us, right, Charls?!" the blue-haired kid with the short haircut shouted frantically at the air, demanding confirmation.

"Is that so...? I feel like you're the one who doesn't want to lose Charls, Buggy."
