The elders told Lin Jianbai that words have power and he should watch what he says. But Lin Jianbai never knew when to keep his mouth shut.
[The Dead Buddha]
While traveling, Lin Jianbai unexpectedly came across a dilapidated Buddha statue.
The old folks always said you shouldn't worship wild Buddha statues by the roadside. Lin Jianbai didn't take that to heart. Not only did he worship it, he also said something he shouldn't have.
"All alone, you poor thing. Want to come home with me?"
Some time later, his companions caught up with him, and Lin Jianbai soon forgot the incident. During the holidays, he left school and went home, only to find that his mother had brought a Buddha statue into the house.
"Why is it so shabby?" Lin Jianbai asked his mother, puzzled.
"Pah, pah, pah! Jianbai is young and didn't mean to offend you. Please forgive him," his mother said quickly.
Everyone but Lin Jianbai saw a brand-new Buddha statue. They said it had a compassionate face.
Ever since his mother brought the statue home, her illness had gotten better, his father's company had grown bigger and bigger, and even the neighbors had benefited from its blessing. Only Lin Jianbai felt more and more uneasy whenever he looked at the strange statue.
It seemed that the dead Buddha really had followed him home.
[The Wish House]
While out for a change of scenery, Lin Jianbai happened to hear someone mention the "Wish House." They said wishes made there came true.
"But anyone who goes inside never comes out again."
"Why not?"
"Because they found the treasure they lost."
Lin Jianbai was curious.
He went inside and got nothing, so he came out empty-handed.
"What an idiot."
A few days later, however, Lin Jianbai returned home--
"Jianbai, why aren't you greeting him?" His father frowned.
"It's nothing. I just dropped by unexpectedly," said the person on the other end of the sofa gently, looking at Lin Jianbai with a tender gaze. He was exactly... the way he had been when alive.
The man who had always treated him well, but whom he had caused to drown, had come back.
"Uncle Fang..."
[Lover]
Within a week, all three of his roommates had found partners. Lin Jianbai said, "Seriously? Is this how you treat your bro?"
He refused to accept it!
"Actually... I have someone too." After pretending to hesitate for a moment, Lin Jianbai looked at his roommates.
Lin Jianbai made up a lover: a name, an age, and an appearance. Yes, to convince his roommates, he even drew a picture of his lover by hand.
As the days went by, he spun more and more lies, and Lin Jianbai began to feel guilty. But his roommates never doubted him.
"Don't you want to meet him?" Lin Jianbai asked one day.
"We've already met him."
"?"
His "lover" had really appeared.
Don't give a name to someone who doesn't exist. He might hear you.
[Older Brother]
On Valentine's Day, Lin Jianbai received a plush toy. It had been sent from his family home, so he assumed it was a gift from his family.
From that day on, he began dreaming about his older brother more and more often.
His brother stroked his face and said gently, "We'll be together forever."
But he had never met this biological older brother.
His brother had died before he was born. Their mother had fallen into depression and only began to recover after Lin Jianbai was born. To avoid upsetting her again, his father burned every photograph of his brother in the house.
Lin Jianbai had only learned by chance that he once had an older brother, after secretly overhearing someone talking about it.
At a family gathering, Lin Jianbai casually mentioned that he had dreamed about his brother. His parents' expressions changed at once.
Oh, he'd forgotten. His brother was a forbidden topic in the family.
Lin Jianbai said no more.
Then one day, he learned from his father that after his brother died, his mother had bought a plush toy that looked like him. The toy was terribly uncanny: it had grown fingernails, and its hair was getting longer. So his father had asked someone to dispose of it.
They didn't know that the abandoned toy had come back on its own and had been watching them from the shadows all along.
"I'm your older brother," the toy had told a young Lin Jianbai.
"We're family."
"We'll be together forever."
Lin Jianbai had agreed, but then forgotten again.
The poor toy had been abandoned once more.
"Big brother." After remembering everything, Lin Jianbai called him that again.
This time, the toy wouldn't go soft.
[Hometown] Lin Jianbai's father told him not to go back to that small town again, but Lin Jianbai missed home too much...
Reading notes:
1. This story does not involve religious content. The related setting is purely an outburst of personal kinks.
2. Quick transmigration, but the worlds are unrelated and the protagonist has no memories.
3. The love interest is the same person in every world.
Here's a preview of another upcoming story (≧ω≦)
[I Want to Be the Bride of an Otherworldly Daddy Today, Too]
[Restrained Otherworldly Daddy Top x Pretty Human Tempting Bottom]
["You raised me so well. Wasn't it so you could marry me?"]
Qi An was adopted by a monster when he was young. The monster taught him the language of beasts, built him a nest, and used its most fearsome appearance to scare off every prying gaze.
Qi An once thought they would keep living like that forever.
But one day, after a group of people accidentally wandered into the forest, he too was "driven" out.
"You should return to human society," the monster told Qi An.
Qi An refused. He cried and made a fuss, and finally brought the "nightmare" of the forbidden forest out with him.
"Daddy." In his first month outside, Qi An followed local customs and gave the monster a new title.
It thought that meant "father" and accepted it gladly.
From then on, everyone around them knew that their beautiful neighbor had a father who rarely spoke, a strange man who was always wrapped up from head to toe.
Only Qi An knew what the title really meant. Whenever night fell and the world was quiet, he would lock the door and whisper in the language of beasts into the monster's ear.
Recently, the monster had been troubled.
The little one it had raised no longer clung to it. Those beautiful eyes were always looking somewhere else. It was afraid, it was angry, it... couldn't do anything at all.
Qi An didn't belong to it.
"Qi An is human. He should return to human society. That would be what's best for him." The monster told itself this over and over.
But when it saw Qi An spending time with other people, its murderous urges still churned inside it.
Its An An was so beautiful, so innocent. What if someone tricked him?
The monster found a reason for what it was about to do.
Everyone at school knew that Qi An had a strict father.
"Absolutely, absolutely no dating." They heard that was his father's rule.
"What happens if he dates someone?" the new transfer student asked.
"You'll die," someone whispered.
They told the transfer student that a guy from the neighboring department had pursued Qi An last month, and this month he was gone. They'd heard he'd met Qi An's mysterious father.
"You raised me so well. Wasn't it so you could marry me?"
"...I raised you so you could have a good life."
"I'm already living a good life, with you."
"...Humans don't marry monsters."
"Then you shouldn't have raised me to like only monsters."
