Blood and Tears

Forensic pathologist x police captain

Childhood friends

One short story, one case

Su Hua sighed, his eyes full of sorrow he could not hide. He spoke softly. "If I really had a girlfriend, would you be happy?"

Mu Yushu did not answer for a long time. Su Hua looked up at him. His face was still as a lake, revealing no emotion. After a moment, Mu Yushu spoke. "You should have someone to look after you. That's a good thing."

Su Hua lowered his head and bit his lip, tears welling in his eyes. He blinked, and the tears pattered onto the ground. His voice trembled as he asked, "What are we to each other?"

Tender moments flashed through Mu Yushu's mind. Looking at the person who had been by his side for more than ten years, how could Mu Yushu not know what answer he was waiting for? Though neither of them had ever crossed that final line, they both understood the place they held in each other's hearts. They both knew that even if they had to give up everything in the world, they could never give up each other.

But Mu Yushu couldn't say it. He didn't want someone so perfect to keep walking the rough and dangerous road of police work for his sake. "We're friends." The words left his mouth, and Mu Yushu's heart bled.
