The promise in the ring box still glows, but the starlight in your eyes can no longer illuminate my name. It turns out the most painful kind of forgetting is when I live in the past while you live in a future without me.
Yu Wu is a famous all-round boss and agent in the entertainment industry. Her employees all like to call her "Mama Yu." The first artist she discovered was an exceptionally talented girl. Yu Wu devoted three whole years to nurturing her, never realizing the girl had quietly fallen in love with her.
The night before the awards ceremony, the girl suddenly hugged Yu Wu when she came to her room. Yu Wu thought she was just nervous and cheerfully told her to get some rest and look her best for the awards. But the next day, the girl showed up neither at the company nor at the ceremony. Everyone thought she had run away, but Yu Wu refused to believe it. Only when the girl's older sister came to find her did Yu Wu learn that the girl had passed away from an illness.
Only then did Yu Wu understand how many unspoken words that hug had held. Sadly, it was already too late.
Yu Wu never told anyone about it and even planned to stop discovering new talent. But later, she met Song Xingyao, a young person as talented as that girl. Yu Wu poured her heart into training her, turning her into a top star. When Song Xingyao was attacked by online public opinion, Yu Wu finally told her about the past, hoping only that she wouldn't give up so easily.
Later, Yu Wu formed a four-member girl group with her team, and Song Xingyao established herself in the industry.
Her career kept growing, but her love life was always a mess.
Especially when it came to her childhood friend Mu Wan. She brought up the promise they'd made as children, when Yu Wu said she would "marry her," but Yu Wu could barely remember it.
The future they once promised each other never came to pass. In the end, they lost the promise they had made when they were young.
"Do you remember when we played house as children and you said you'd marry me?"
"I forgot."
"But I didn't. I chased after you for three years when we were kids, and you even made a ring out of modeling clay and said you'd give me a real one when we grew up... But you'd forgotten all about that ring a long time ago."
It's true that not many childhood friends make it to the end together. Neither did we.
