On Transferring to the Animal Academy

The first day Qiu Li went to school to register.

Everyone wore animal-ear headbands in all kinds of styles or bizarre fake tails. Even her deskmate, who had been asleep ever since sitting down, was no exception.

A pair of pure-black feline ears, with a tuft of snowy-white fur spreading inside each ear. They looked so soft and inviting to touch.

Unable to resist, Qiu Li secretly gave them a couple of strokes. They were not only soft and fluffy, but springy, too.

Her deskmate rolled over, revealing half a lazy, annoyed face from the crook of their arm.

"Why are you touching my ears? Looking for a fight?"

Her deskmate wasn't the only strange one. Her roommates seemed off, too.

Roommate A munched on bamboo as a snack.

Roommate B made a special trip to a hoof salon for a manicure.

Roommate C was the only one who seemed normal. But after spending five minutes in the bathroom, she opened the door again to reveal a tall young man whose face looked about eighty percent like hers.

As Qiu Li stared in shock, her roommate said in a low, magnetic voice, "Sorry, I've had a change of heart lately. Being male suits me better after all."

A week into the semester, Qiu Li finally realized that she was the one who didn't fit in.

To blend in as quickly as possible and keep her human identity under wraps, she rushed to the trinket market in the middle of the night, bought a few feathers, and stuck them to her shoulder blades, pretending that her true form was a long-tailed tit.

Qiu Li: Plan successful √

Until, later on, during an outdoor swimming elective.

Qiu Li dove into the pool with an exceptionally graceful form. As she swam farther and farther away, a trail of feathers floated on the water behind her.

Her classmates were stunned.

Qiu Li tried to keep calm. "If I said I'm molting right now, would you believe me?"

After Qiu Li's human identity was exposed, she thought she would be ostracized, or even expelled. Instead, things somehow turned into this:

Her roommates invited her to the movies.

The student council president brought her milk tea and a love letter.

One day after class, her deskmate cornered her against the classroom wall. Qiu Li warily shielded her head and face, only to see her usually aloof deskmate blush and lower their head, offering their animal ears to her. "You can touch them..."
