A Christmas Carol

Blurb:

"Breaking news: Our country's renowned physicist, Comrade Song Ge, was killed in the line of duty at 1:27 a.m. on December 4 in Jiangcheng while carrying out a major mission."

The brief, powerful obituary and a black-and-white photo of a handsome, mixed-race man spread everywhere, sweeping across the globe.

Qi Ye is bankrupt, drowning in debt, and at the end of his rope. He has never even heard of Dr. Song Ge, the physicist renowned around the world. But the moments when a protagonist is on the verge of collapse are always where a story takes a turn.

"Hello, Mr. Qi. We're with the Security Bureau."

Qi Ye: "...I only filed for bankruptcy restructuring. Surely that doesn't mean the Security Bureau has to get involved!"

"You've misunderstood, Mr. Qi. We just need your help. The pay is negotiable."

Qi Ye: "As long as you pay overtime, I'll work like a draft animal!"

When he entered the villa, he found that the stranger from the obituary was alive and well, except that he had gone crazy.

The moment Song Ge saw him, he began sobbing. Sweat and tears mingled on his cheeks, soaking the neat fringe above his forehead as a few strands fell messily over his face.

He gently tugged at Qi Ye's trouser leg and asked in a weak voice, "Wifey, why won't you hug me?"

Qi Ye: ...

Security Bureau: "We understand. That's a different rate."

Qi Ye: Wait, who is this guy?
