[Amnesia: An old trope, made new]
When Bai Yue'er wakes up, she is in a shabby rental apartment.
She can't remember her past, her name, or even why she is here.
The apartment shows signs of only one occupant. The toothbrush bristles are splayed, the toothpaste is nearly gone, and there is only one sheet of toilet paper left.
There are three contacts on the phone by the bed: Husband, Senior, and Unrequited Love.
She calls Husband. The phone is off.
She calls Unrequited Love. He sounds impatient: "I've turned you down eight hundred times. Can you have some self-respect? You have a husband, so why are you still pestering me?"
She calls Senior. He immediately shuts her down: "Stop calling me. I don't owe you anything anymore."
With relationships this bad, was she really that hard to like?
Bai Yue'er looks in the mirror. A pretty face, a voluptuous figure, young and fair-skinned.
Being young is an asset. This isn't a nightmare from the start.
What should she do next?
First, find Husband and ask him for a breakup fee.
Second, find Senior and ask whether he owes her any money.
Third, find Unrequited Love and see just how arrogant he is.
Fourth, find her parents and see if she can live off them...
