The Pretty Darling's Thousand-Layered Schemes

Ji Shu gets married to the Yu family's second daughter, supposedly a sickly woman.

She was originally engaged to the Yu family's eldest daughter, but when the wedding came around, it was the second daughter who took her place.

But Ji Shu doesn't care. Neither does anyone in the Ji family. Their goal is to form a marriage alliance with the Yu family.

On their wedding night, Yu Mowan stands downstairs. "Wifey, I've been standing all day and my feet hurt. Will you carry me upstairs?" Her delicate, fair face crumples into a pitiful pout.

Ji Shu's heart softens, and she carries her upstairs.

At bedtime, Yu Mowan stands at the door to Ji Shu's bedroom, clutching a pillow and pouting as if she's about to burst into tears. "Wifey, will you hold me while we sleep? I'm scared to sleep alone."

Ji Shu wants to ask how she used to sleep alone before, but one look at her pitiful expression and Ji Shu's heart softens again, against her better judgment.

"Wifey, this porridge is so hot. Blow on it for me."

"Wifey, when are you getting off work? I miss you so much."

"Wifey..."

"Wifey..."

Ji Shu suspects she's brought home a spoiled little princess.

Every time, she fails to resist Yu Mowan. Before long, she falls headfirst into love with her pampered wife.

Then one day, Ji Shu accidentally overhears her spoiled wife chatting with a friend. The friend asks what she likes about Ji Shu. Yu Mowan laughs and says, "Does liking how obedient she is count?"

Yu Mowan has congenital heart disease and underwent heart surgery as a child, leaving an ugly scar on her chest. Doctors said she'd live to twenty-five at most. For the past twenty-three years, she's spent more time in the hospital than at home. At school, she was treated like a porcelain doll, too afraid to do anything, while her classmates kept their distance in case they hurt her.

Taking her sister's place in the marriage was the most outrageous thing she'd ever done. Luckily, her wife was very obedient and went along with everything couples do together. Even so, she still couldn't love her.
