From Fleeing Disaster to Farming

A devastating flood struck Lian'an County, destroying countless villages overnight. Lin Ming was the only survivor in his family.

On the third day of their flight, he came across several thugs robbing a lone ger. Filthy and driven to desperation, the victim was none other than the Zhou family's ger from the neighboring village, who was betrothed to him.

The next day, Lin Ming was no longer traveling alone. The two set off together, crossed towering mountains and rushing rivers, and were once trapped on an island amid floodwaters. After trekking over a thousand li, they finally settled in a small mountain village said to enjoy favorable weather and plentiful harvests.

From having no roof over their heads to owning more than ten mu of good farmland and eight or nine thatched cottages, the two worked with their own hands and at last built the life they wanted.

Shou once thought his betrothal to Lin Ming was nothing more than an arrangement made by their parents and matchmakers. They traveled together during their flight mainly because they trusted each other's character and having a companion made it easier to take turns resting. But then an accident happened: Lin Ming was swept away by the water, and Shou, though already out of danger, turned back without hesitation. Only then did he realize he had fallen deeply in love without even noticing.

They flee disaster in the first part, then settle down to farming. No imperial examinations, but they will probably start a small business.

Neither protagonist is entirely good-hearted.

Theme: Be self-reliant and persevere. A good life is something you build yourself.
