What would happen if Furuya Rei had remained a pure Black faction character in his original conception and, after nearly dying in the final Red-versus-Black battle, encountered the original-story Police Academy gang at age twenty-two?
Inspired by a passage on Lofter (excerpt):
"If he were a pure Black faction character, there would be no Amuro Tooru, only the bold, confident Furuya Rei or Bourbon. He could turn Tokyo upside down and toy with members of the Organization and the Red faction. He wouldn't have to suffer through losing his friends in the line of duty and being left all alone, or live in constant suspicion and fear over his undercover identity, dreading that one day his cover would be blown. He wouldn't have to sneak off to visit a grave.
I love his sense of responsibility, his justice, and his principles, but I also want to see him happy and carefree, without a heavy mission weighing on him."
To get a happy ending, I'll definitely have to water things down like crazy and add lots of original settings. Otherwise, I can't think of any way to make it end happily, no matter how hard I try. Black Rei is really difficult to write. A 100% pure Black Rei seems destined for a finale of "a grand funeral, the fireworks fading away." For the scenes I want to see, this is a story about "Furuya Rei" (a woman) and the Police Academy gang.
It should be gen, not necessarily with a romance. If there is one, it'll probably be HikaRei (with the Hiro from each respective world). This is a much later idea, so I'll tag it as no romance for now.
