Yin Qingyue was gifted from childhood, with an exceptional spiritual root. Unfortunately, nothing ever went her way, and bad luck always followed her. She was a bona fide jinx.
Until one day, she awakened to the truth and discovered she was merely a cannon-fodder female supporting character in a novel. She realized she wasn't unlucky at all, just an absolute sucker. Soon, her family would force her to have her spiritual root extracted and her cultivation destroyed, then offer the stolen root to the heroine, her half-sister. She herself would end up with her soul extinguished, utterly obliterated. Shouldn't she run for it???
Yin Qingyue immediately chose to leave her family and seek refuge with the powerful villain, the Demon Lord, to keep herself alive.
Unfortunately, Yin Qingyue had no idea where the Demon Lord was or what she looked like. All she knew was that she had an uncanny lotus mark on her forehead.
One day, Yin Qingyue accidentally rescued a little demon. The child was thin and ragged, and when discovered, was fighting other demons like a stray dog over food. They beat her half to death, and she nearly died on the spot.
Moved by compassion, Yin Qingyue rescued the little demon and gave her food, drink, and a bath. Then she spotted a lotus mark on the child's forehead that looked more and more familiar the longer she stared.
She was delighted. What a coincidence!
The little demon grew up well-fed and well-cared-for by Yin Qingyue, becoming fair and beautiful. Then, one stormy night, she finally confessed her feelings to Yin Qingyue, and in a daze, the two pledged themselves to each other and registered their marriage.
By that point, Yin Qingyue could only accept the sudden change in their relationship, until a woman claiming to be the Demon Lord appeared out of nowhere and respectfully called the little demon "Mother."
Yin Qingyue: "...I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead!"
The Demon Lord's birth mother, Xi Yanran, was capricious, mercurial, and utterly lawless. She killed everyone, whether they were friends or foes, whether they had done her a favor or wronged her. She was inhuman in the truest sense, the villain among villains and the demon among demons.
More importantly, there was a rumor going around: she was bad luck for her wives.
Yin Qingyue was dumbfounded. She didn't think the little girl she had raised with her own hands could be like that, but who could guarantee anything!
Forget it. Better run.

After faking her death, Yin Qingyue lived like a goddess, traveling and enjoying herself every day without a care in the world. She even went to a small country in the human realm, became its national preceptor, and was bestowed a princess as her bride.
But at a palace banquet just before the wedding, Yin Qingyue unexpectedly ended up in bed with the princess.
When she came to and saw the familiar face beside her on the pillow, she learned that the entire city was Demon territory, and the so-called princess was none other than the birth mother of the current Demon Lord.
Yin Qingyue grabbed her clothes and prepared to run again, but just then Xi Yanran hooked a foot around her, then draped herself limply over Yin Qingyue's back and slowly climbed up to her neck. Her eyes reddened, her voice tender and lingering:
"A Qing, have you had enough fun? Don't forget, you've already promised to marry me."
"If you back out and fake your death to run away again this time, I'll kill you."
