The apocalypse comes with mechanical ascension.

A year has passed since Earth’s dimensional ascension elimination tournament began. Those chosen to represent their countries are called the Chosen Ones, and their nations praise them as heroes. They must enter instances created from real-world unsolved cases, represent their countries and humanity, survive, and solve the cases.

But none of this had anything to do with Jiang Kexin. He was just an ordinary college student, studying the equally ordinary major of Classical Chinese Language and Literature. He led an ordinary life and occasionally watched the Chosen Ones’ official livestreams.

That was his everyday life. He never expected what happened next.

One day, following his usual routine, he went to the library to hunt for antique books, and came across a mysterious volume filled with chaotic writing and quotations.

The moment Jiang Kexin opened it, he fell into a state of chaos that lasted all night. Horrifying howls, human blood, and stories enveloped him day and night.

When he woke again, he had become one of the Chosen Ones. But the real cases he faced were unlike anyone else’s: the secrets of Mermaid Town, the mysterious amusement park in the Snow Kingdom... The cases he encountered spanned the whole country.

His livestream also revealed another side of this world: the frailty of humanity.

But as Jiang Kexin struggled to survive, the viewers slowly began to realize that something was off.

[Even so, why can Mr. Jiang always tame the monsters he encounters?]

[Is that really what you’re focusing on? I’m more curious about something else. Why are this Chosen One’s instances different from everyone else’s? I found the real cases he’s facing, and every one of them has a perfectly scientific explanation. Nothing strange happened in any of them.]

In a new case instance, he faced the final monster. His teammates were well and truly dead, and the monster had dragged him back to its lair. It stretched out a tentacle and gently slid it into his mouth, wanting to merge with him.

To make him bear its children.

Wearing his own coat, Jiang Kexin looked speechlessly at the familiar ending unfolding before him. It was always like this. The monster would spread its body carelessly, come close and coil around him, wanting to devour him and turn him into its womb.

This was the sort of instance he encountered every time. Here, he had to survive and protect his abdominal cavity.

At a comic convention, Yugu was dragged by a bunch of unreliable friends into cosplaying a gender-swapped Tomie. Blushing with embarrassment, he recited Tomie’s iconic lines, including but not limited to: “I’m so beautiful that every man falls for me.” Then, all of a sudden, he transmigrated into the famous scene where cursed spirits gather for a meeting.

When he saw the familiar café and the man with stitches on his head staring at him in surprise, Yugu fell silent.

The good news was that Yugu had transmigrated, but he wasn’t without a golden finger.

As long as his cosplay score kept rising, he would become immortal, just like the real Tomie. The bad news was that Tomie was good at attracting unstable people, and he had landed in the wicked city of Beika, in a world where cursed spirits existed. It was a headache. Surviving in this chaotic world was far too hard.

After Yugu transmigrated, all sorts of secrets began surfacing in this world, along with ubiquitous urban legends and new religious sects.

Wherever Tomie went, chaos followed as she revealed the world’s savior to its criminals and sinners. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, he took firm control of the sect founded by the villains.

Yugu: Let me say it again: I only want to live a quiet life, so please stop looking at me like that.

The criminals and villains knew the truth, but their feelings never changed: My Lord, we will love you forever and offer you everything. You are our taboo and our desire, our villainous savior.
