I Have a Nightmare Prison

After mysterious forces resurfaced, the real world was turned upside down overnight, and people with supernatural abilities began to shake things up.

However, none of that had anything to do with Shu Xingzhou, a low-level clerical worker.

Until one day, he saw a man over two and a half meters tall, with an insect’s head and eight legs.

Shu Xingzhou had the strange feeling he’d seen it before. The next second, the insect-man’s mouthparts snapped shut, blood sprayed everywhere, and a living bystander was devoured whole.

Shu Xingzhou accidentally locked eyes with the monster

But the insect-man fled at top speed in the opposite direction, as if the unarmed young man were the real monster.

Shu Xingzhou stood frozen. ...Well, now it seems to have something to do with me.

Nobody knew that the unassuming Shu Xingzhou was actually a supernatural ability user outside the System.

In the real world, he was weak as a kitten. But in the nightmare world, he wielded authority on par with the gods.

To indulge his collecting habit, Shu Xingzhou had built a warehouse to store all his cute (terrifying), sweet (sinister), well-behaved (evil) nightmares.

When he returned to the warehouse to check, he found that the insect-man terrorizing the real world really had come from the nightmare world.

And it wasn’t the only nightmare that had escaped

Shu Xingzhou thought of himself as a kind administrator. Only now did he learn that the nightmares saw him as an evil warden...

The evil warden smiled faintly and decided to dispatch other nightmares to arrest their escaped companions who were wreaking havoc in the real world.

And so, the already dangerous real world faced an even greater challenge

A giant insect-man appeared here, noisily gnawing on human bones;

A shrill-voiced balloon came there, laughing as it lured children in;

Even the moon turned red, and a hideous giant face bared its sharp teeth.

While the Bureau was tearing its hair out, Shu Xingzhou rubbed Assistant Number One’s head, troubled by a thought:

What should he do if his assistant oversteps his place and steals a kiss from the warden?

*This is not a traditional spiritual qi revival story. It’s more like supernatural lore coming to life.

*The protagonist is no saint. After all, you’d expect someone who hangs out with nightmares to have a few personality flaws.

Yun Jingxu decides to break up with his boyfriend of many years, who has grown increasingly mysterious and distant.

But when he throws open the door, ready for a confrontation, he sees, an inhuman figure glowing white, its tentacles twisted...

And there, on its face, is his lover’s peerlessly handsome, flawless face.

Yun Jingxu takes a deep breath and, unable to resist, inexplicably faints.

When he opens his eyes again, he sees only his lover’s tender smile. The man wraps his arms tightly around Yun Jingxu, burying his face in the crook of his neck, and says nothing about what happened the day before.

Yun Jingxu stares at the split in the back of his neck, where pearly white spores are clearly visible. Trembling as he holds back his fear, he asks for a temporary break.

His boyfriend clings to him pitifully, pretending not to hear, and refuses to agree.

Yun Jingxu can only go out to clear his head, but wherever he goes, his lover follows like a ghost... and the world around him starts to feel wrong.

He attends a party aboard a cruise ship, but the waves freeze in place, blocking the ship’s path.

He goes to his school reunion, only to find his old dormitory gloomy and haunted, with blood dripping from somewhere.

He visits his parents at their old home. When he opens the door, his father comes out to greet him... and there are three of him.

As Yun Jingxu ponders this, a pair of hands like works of art wrap around him from behind. His boyfriend’s cold voice murmurs in his ear:

“Don’t leave me... Ever. Forever.”

Yun Jingxu: ...

Yun Jingxu turns to stare at his boyfriend’s face. In those deep, unwavering eyes, the first thing he notices is unease and uncertainty.

So he sighs and kisses his lover between the brows.

This is hopeless. Why do I think it’s kind of cute?

*A controlling, seductive pursuer on the receiving end x a nonhuman spore-based creator god on the pursuing end

*The author knows nothing about biology, so the spores involve a lot of original settings. They’re the kind of spores from bio-horror shows that reproduce in large numbers, inhabit human bodies, control minds, and cause mutations.
