The Whole Immortal Sect Says She's a Substitute

Zhou Qing was filthy when Ning Changzhi picked her up on a whim at the market. Ning Changzhi was the revered Immortal Venerable Lianyun, said to have already attained immortality but chosen to remain in the mortal world. The very day she found Zhou Qing, she took her in as a disciple.

When Zhou Qing failed the spiritual root test, couldn't learn the sect's spells, or was mocked by her fellow disciples for being inferior to Ning Changzhi's previous pupil, Ning Changzhi would comfort her: "You only need to be my disciple."

Only later did Zhou Qing learn that Ning Changzhi had once taken another disciple: a radiant and noble senior sister, the unattainable ideal in everyone's heart. But twenty years ago, she had suddenly died, body and soul destroyed. Ning Changzhi had taken no disciples since, until she made an exception for Zhou Qing.

Whenever Ning Changzhi looked at Zhou Qing, Zhou Qing always felt she was looking through her at someone else.

Zhou Qing asked her, "Who are you looking at, Master?"

Ning Changzhi replied, "The person I love most."
