★ A lighthearted, goofy story.
Yuan Mian transmigrates into The History of Liang as a young, scapegoated emperor who loses his country.
The Liang Emperor is young and handsome, immensely talented, and utterly useless at running a country.
To avoid being remembered as the emperor who lost his kingdom, he hands the throne to the crown prince on the very day the nation falls.
The unfortunate crown prince, emperor for only half a day, becomes the last ruler in Liang's history. Imprisoned and humiliated by the enemy for three years, he eventually dies a miserable death.
When Yuan Mian arrives, the Liang Emperor has been on the throne for years. He's extravagant and debauched, the kingdom is impoverished and weak, the politics are in chaos, and its fall is fast approaching.
Yuan Mian: "Guys, what am I supposed to do with a dad like this?"
His ministers: "Remonstrate to the death! What else can we do, rebel?"
His trusted retainers: "Rebel! What else, die for him?"
The princes: "Run! What else, wait around to die?"
Yuan Mian decides that the most reliable plan is to get the Liang Emperor to strip him of his position as crown prince!
So he spends his days indulging in wine, women, and song in the palace, and ignores state affairs.
His imperial father: "My son has finally come around! Wonderful. Tomorrow we'll choose consorts and concubines to fill the Eastern Palace."
Yuan Mian: "...What?"
Father, we are not of the same mind!
The next day, Yuan Mian changes his plan.
The Liang Emperor is in the rear palace, singing and dancing with his consorts, when Yuan Mian kicks open the hall doors.
"Father is debauched and neglects state affairs. He's utterly benighted!"
His imperial father: "My son speaks frankly and remonstrates with me! Reward him!"
Yuan Mian: "...What?"
On the third day, Yuan Mian decides to step up his outrageous behavior.
The Liang Emperor is in court, about to issue an edict executing a general. Yuan Mian flings down his court tablet.
"Father can't tell the loyal from the treacherous, and kills loyal subjects indiscriminately. He's a brutal, benighted ruler!"
His imperial father: "My son is loyal, filial, benevolent, and righteous! Reward him!"
Yuan Mian: "...What?"
As he keeps trying to get himself killed, Yuan Mian realizes that not only is there no sign of him being deposed as crown prince, his position is becoming more secure with every stunt.
The jealous princes all try to imitate him.
The princes: "Father is building palaces on a grand scale, exhausting the people and..."
Their imperial father: "Insolent, unfilial wretches! Drag them out and beat them! Beat them hard!"
The princes: "Waaah... This isn't how it's supposed to go! Big Brother, save us..."
Later, Yuan Mian purges corrupt officials, puts down internal unrest, reforms the government, strengthens the nation, and brings prosperity to every trade...
The old Yuan sees his son working day and night, diligently attending to state affairs and showing no interest in having children, so he takes on the royal family's duty of producing heirs.
"My son, these are the great general and princess I gave birth to for you. Are you satisfied?"
Yuan Mian: "...???"
Father, do you have any idea how terrifyingly powerful your country is now?
