On the day the culinary cultivator Song Chi was undergoing tribulation, the skies darkened and thunder roared. But the tribulation lightning struck her and sent her straight to a strange world.
Luckily, the Heavenly Way hadn't cut off all her options. It sent her wok spatula and kitchen knife along with her, and she still had all her cultivation powers.
There was no spiritual energy here, nor any cultivators, just a bunch of people fighting with sabers, spears, swords, halberds, and axes.
It was called a city, but it was more like a deserted island. Every three days, someone tossed a pile of steamed buns through the barrier at the city gate.
To fight for a single bite of food, people battled from north to south and east to west, beating one another bloody until even their own mothers wouldn't recognize them.
Song Chi passed by carrying an iron pot and a freshly caught wild chicken, along with some mushrooms she'd just picked.
Before long, the smell of chicken stewed with mushrooms drifted out of a clump of weeds.
Everyone stopped trying to kill one another, their mouths watering. What was this... Had they gotten so hungry they were hallucinating?
Wasteland City was a city of outcasts, a graveyard for defeated cultivators. Spiritual energy had withered there, and every plant and animal that grew there was poisonous. The great clans stationed people outside the city and dropped off a small amount of food every three days, just to watch the residents turn on each other and become utterly useless, so that the other rogue cultivators would never dare rebel.
But after a little girl appeared, no one touched the steamed buns again. Instead, the cultivators of Wasteland City looked rosy-cheeked and healthy, and even their cultivation levels began to rise.
Later, when the great clans sent envoys to investigate, what they saw was a small bamboo restaurant and a group of powerful cultivators asking, "Alliance Leader, what are we eating today?"
A little girl came charging out, gritting her teeth and brandishing a spatula. "If you don't line up, none of you are eating!"
Later still, the cultivators worked together to break the barrier. They moved mountains and filled seas, never stopping along the way, determined to build their Alliance Leader a comfortable city of her own.
The day the great clans fell, the sun shone brightly on the world for once.
Song Chi prepared a grand feast of a thousand river delicacies, celebrating the sun and moon, only to realize that she seemed to be undergoing tribulation in this world again...
