Listening to the Rain

After finishing her college entrance exams, Yu Qingzhi spent a dull, uneventful summer in her hometown county. It was also that summer that she properly met Chi Huan. At a classmate's college admission celebration, one of Yu Qingzhi's classmates introduced Chi Huan as someone from their year, from the science class at his school. Everyone there had their eyes on Chi Huan.

Chi Huan was slender and fair, with sharp features. Of all the boys there, he had the best sense of style. A simple black T-shirt and black cargo pants looked especially good on him.

As people at the celebration began saying their goodbyes, Yu Qingzhi stepped into the restaurant lobby and saw Chi Huan standing by a first-floor window, smoking. Rain fell slowly outside. Yu Qingzhi watched him quietly, thinking he suited the gloomy, rainy day. She was so absorbed in watching him that she didn't notice someone calling, "Chi Huan!" He turned around, and their eyes met briefly. His gaze was cold, and Yu Qingzhi instinctively wrapped her arms around herself.

The story begins that summer.
