At a university in the late 20th century, A Yan, an artsy, slightly ditzy young woman, meets the campus heartthrob A Xu, the boy she promised as a child that they would attend university together. She also gets to know her roommates A Xue, A Min, and Yang Yang, and the four begin a wonderful university life.
A Yan meets someone with the same name as A Xu, and after making careful inquiries, confirms that he is the boy she made that promise to years ago. A Xue and A Min are both campus beauties, and the two become entangled over a boy.
