Always looking for ghosts to cuddle: Believes in yin nourishing yang. The prickly, sickly NPC shou
It wasn't until he met Xiao Zhao that Ye Jin learned he was a cannon-fodder NPC in a horror survival world.
His character was a sickly young master from a wealthy family who could only stay alive by absorbing the yin energy of ghosts.
But the previous batch of players had been too strong. They not only blew up his instance, they also gave him a concussion. He forgot which family's young master he was, and which instance he was supposed to work in. Now, all he could think about was cuddling ghosts.
And so he began wandering from instance to instance.
Instance A:
Ye Jin spotted an old woman knitting a sweater. Her needles were made from ground-down ribs, and the yarn was a tangled mass of black hair.
Great, a ghost!
He was about to pounce and hug her when a tall, handsome young man stopped him. "Don't go near her! She's a ghost!"
Ye Jin: ?
Before he could explain, the young man had already cut the ghost down with one stroke of his sword. Then he shot Ye Jin a cool look. "I'm Xiao Zhao."
Ye Jin rushed over and picked up the half-knitted sweater. "Granny, dear! What a waste!"
Instance B:
After much searching, Ye Jin finally found an ugly ghost gnawing on a living person. The flesh and blood that splattered onto him turned into phosphorescent flames and kept burning.
Great, a ghost!
He was about to pounce and hug it when Xiao Zhao appeared again. "Demon, face my sword!" He beat Ye Jin to it and sliced off the ugly ghost's head.
Ye Jin: !
Xiao Zhao gave him a look like he was useless. "Be careful next time!"
Ye Jin went over and cupped the phosphorescent flames that were about to go out. "Dear Dad! I'm going to die!"
Instance C:
Thanks to a certain someone, Ye Jin hadn't cuddled a ghost in ages. He was gaunt, and there was more yin energy around him than around a ghost. Dragging his battered body along, he found a tattered raincoat, reached into its sleeve, and pulled out a skeletal hand wearing an emerald ring.
Finally, a cuddle! Bliss!
A familiar voice sounded behind him. "Demon, face my sword!"
Ye Jin was struck like lightning. He whipped around, and the two of them stared at each other.
Xiao Zhao looked at the two ghosts holding hands, raised an eyebrow, and shouted angrily, "Both of you demons, face my sword!"
Ye Jin, who had absorbed his fill of yin energy and turned back into a cute little guy with rosy lips and white teeth, said, "Are you blind?!"
Countless players had seen Ye Jin, an NPC who wandered from instance to instance. He seemed like a pointless bug, and no one could get a single useful clue from him. Yet the famous priest Xiao Zhao absurdly insisted he was a real person, right up until he saw the NPC's glorious transformation.
The instance rules said that killing a hundred ghosts and completing every side quest would let you return to the real world. Xiao Zhao had killed all the ghosts, but he still had one quest left, and it was one he could never complete.
He'd gone too far and blown up that instance. He'd never see his side-quest NPC again.
Unexpectedly, one day he saw his NPC appear in another instance.
Three Pure Ones protect me! God protect me! Buddha protect me!
So how exactly was he supposed to complete the quest "Give the sickly young master yang energy to cure his illness completely"? Did he really have to do that, that, and that with him?
And what about the new side quest that appeared afterward, "Make the sickly young master happy for the rest of his life"?
