Loss of Body Heat

Xu Jingxin, head of a well-known civilian rescue organization, once publicly declared that he hated people who tried to take their own lives. Yet as the captain of a civilian rescue team dispatched to Country N, he had to pull someone back from the brink of death twice in a single day. Same place, same person. Since they were fellow countrymen, Xu Jingxin gritted his teeth in silence, wishing he could leave the man to fend for himself. At the same time, he patted him on the shoulder and offered noble words of comfort: "Brother, life is precious. Look at it from another angle, and the scenery is endless." The man really did find another angle to view the scenery. The very next day, he went to the most treacherous mountain on the outskirts of the city. Xu Jingxin and his teammates climbed mountains and crossed rivers through wind and rain to save him, and Xu Jingxin accidentally broke his leg in the process. The man borrowed Xu Jingxin's phone and staged a disappearing act over the phone. Xu Jingxin, on a stretcher: You bastard! But he stopped his men from chasing after the man to beat him up. "He might be going through something." One stormy night, someone quietly broke into Xu Jingxin's home. Xu Jingxin took one look and saw it was him again. The man grinned like a rogue. "Well, fancy running into you! Captain Xu, you've saved me this far. How about taking me in for a while?" Xu Jingxin was limping. Before he could even get the word "Get lost" out, the man chuckled carelessly and struggled to his feet, clutching his stomach. "Forget it. Remember, my name is He Xiao." Xu Jingxin saw a hole in his stomach. A gunshot wound. Three years later, Xu Jingxin returned to his country. At a celebration banquet hosted by a charitable organization, he saw He Xiao again. It was the first time he'd seen him dressed formally. He looked away and pretended not to know him. But He Xiao walked straight over to him, completely unbothered. He grinned. "Well, long time no see, Captain Xu!" Xu Jingxin's eyes stung, but he gave a scornful sneer. "Hmph. I thought you were dead." "What a thing to say. That's bad luck!" He Xiao leaned down and chuckled beside his face, his hot breath curling around the rim of Xu Jingxin's ear. "Xiaohua, it's been so long. I thought you wouldn't be able to resist throwing yourself at me!" #The day He Xiao took Xu Jingxin's phone, he saw the meticulously detailed, almost flowery will Xu Jingxin had saved in his photo album. He immediately knew there was something special about this man!# [*] [*] [*] Reader's guide: 1. This is partly a crime-investigation story.
