A Fire Borrowed by a Caged Firefly

During the summer vacation of their sophomore year of high school, two boys decide to trade lives for a while.

Jiang Chubai is a math prodigy. His father ran off after racking up enormous debts, leaving only his elderly grandmother to tend their vineyard.

Chen Yu's father is a down-on-his-luck art-house film director. His mother remarried into a wealthy family, and they won't let him touch a camera anymore.

So Chen Yu secretly pays Jiang Chubai to take his place at math competitions, while he moves into Jiang's home and films a documentary in town.

But when Chen Yu's stepfather learns the truth, he flies into a rage and smashes the camera. Then, without hesitation, he accepts Jiang Chubai, the boy who took Chen Yu's place and came first in the exam, as his godson. Chen Yu storms out and cuts off all contact with his family.
