The Carefree Path, Volume One

When Ye Kuiyang found this book, he had no idea it would sweep him off his feet.

It was a fantasy cultivation novel with a punk aesthetic. Its two male leads, one immortal and one demon, had been enemies for years. After both of them were imprisoned, they had no choice but to rely on each other to escape the land of death.

The book's clever plot twists and compelling characters had a firm hold on readers' hearts. Its exquisite illustrations delivered the finishing blow, completely winning Ye Kuiyang over.

He devoured the whole thing, then sank into deep melancholy.

My favorite character barely gets any screen time! There's nowhere near enough of him!

Ye Kuiyang was a lazy little zombie king with nothing to do.

This book had him completely hooked, and much of the reason was a minor antagonist.

Though Shi Yujin was only a small-time boss in the early chapters, the series of dazzling “declarations of love” he made at their first meeting captured the little zombie's heart. Whenever the zombie saw him speak, it felt as though a warm, fuzzy ball were tickling him inside.

After finishing Volume One, he couldn't stand the suspense and started searching every corner of the city for Volume Two.

Then several bases joined forces to hunt him down, and he ended up transmigrating straight into the book.

Little Zombie: Dazed, but excited.

I get to meet him in person!

After a long search, one day he finally got his wish.

Then he took a closer look and was utterly stunned.

It turned out Shi Yujin was the one who'd made his heart melt, the quiet jack-of-all-trades who'd stood behind him for two years: his very own

clingy little servant.

Who are you, exactly!?

Impossible (waves his hand). Absolutely impossible.

I've searched for so long!

(cries, then throws himself into his servant's arms)

Shi Yujin: Stunned, but smiling.

But Ye Kuiyang had no idea that in Volume Two, which he hadn't read yet, the story's most gripping chapters revealed the true villain: the man who wore a sheep's skin and would overturn the Three Realms. It was none other than his dazzling, gentle, considerate “clingy little servant.”

At this moment, the man followed his master with a quiet smile and downcast eyes, like a shadow that anyone could step on if it lost its protection.

Yet no one could see through those eyes.

Content warnings:

1. Ensemble cast focus! Other characters get plenty of page time, and the side couples are pretty wild.

2. Plot-focused! The top appears a little later. A silk-punk cultivation world.

3. An unconventional age dynamic, either older or younger (Schrodinger's age difference, so both at once). Ahem.

4. Someone has an unrequited crush on the bottom, but the main couple dotes on each other more. They aren't related by blood, get together as adults, are each other's first love, and both are virgins. There's a height difference later on.

5. Both leads have character flaws and heal each other, but it takes time for them to grow.

6. Guaranteed happy ending. Not for readers who want misunderstandings and angsty romance.

7. There may be a lot of fighting, with a bit of a leveling-up feel.

8. A sequel is planned, but I'll have to put it aside for a while before writing it. Other books will come first, including finishing abandoned projects. (Guilty, looks away.)
