★★Yu Xi used to have a lot of things he couldn't understand.
Then, on his birthday, someone maliciously smashed a cake into his face and knocked him unconscious.
He suddenly awakened.
It turned out he was the universally hated punching bag in a book.
Everything he couldn't understand suddenly had an answer.
Why would his own older brother berate him in front of the whole family at their family dinner, all to defend an outsider?
Why would the younger boy he'd watched grow up tear up his love letter at a mixer and scold him for thinking he could reach above his station and lust after a swan?
Why would his own parents always tell him to be tolerant and considerate toward someone staying in their home, and look at him as if he were the one being unreasonable?
Why would his closest roommate take a stranger's side after meeting him just once, and smash Yu Xi's birthday cake into his face at his own birthday party?
He had endured countless such acts of bullying throughout his life.
He was the one who had been wronged, yet he was the one who got blamed.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't change the way others saw him.
Now, everything had an answer.
Because a book needed someone to highlight the protagonist's success, kindness, innocence, and friendliness...
And he was that character.
So, despite coming from a good family and having an ambitious nature, he lived like a rat in a gutter: a failure, a loner, hated by everyone.
And in the end, everyone would abandon him. Nobody would care. He would die alone and miserably.
Yu Xi laughed softly.
The longings he had once yearned for beat inside his chest, then...
Were extinguished, inch by inch.
People noticed Yu Xi had changed.
He no longer eagerly rushed over to them whenever he saw them.
The bright, hopeful light was gone from his eyes when he looked at them. All that remained was a dusty, gray indifference.
His words no longer held even a trace of affection for them... No, he wouldn't say so much as a single word to them.
Everyone was bewildered and furious.
They wanted to do something.
But whatever they did, they could only watch helplessly as they pushed Yu Xi farther and farther away, like a bird that would never return to its nest.
No.
They realized they couldn't accept Yu Xi disappearing from their lives.
They finally understood their own hearts.
But it was already too late.
Away from them, Yu Xi shone brightly, surrounded by outstanding people.
Business elites, leading researchers, academic stars... They were all people the others could never hope to reach, yet they flocked around Yu Xi, vying to be his friends and lovers.
And the others had been shut out at the very edge, forever and ever.
No matter how desperately they shouted themselves hoarse, not a sound could reach him.
Yu Xi left them for good.
A bottom whose heart has died x an evil, bad-dog top.
