The Thirteenth Night

As new energy sources were harnessed, the empire developed at an ever faster pace. The capital especially was changing rapidly, with steam locomotives running in every direction and more and more new inventions appearing.

He Yu came to the capital from the desolate northern frontier.

To earn enough to get by, she took a job as a guard at a count's manor. But then the count took a liking to her. Oh, oh, she hadn't meant for that to happen!

She switched jobs and became a guard officer at the Crown Princess's residence.

The Crown Princess was the most elegant and debonair alpha in the entire empire. If a provincial alpha like her wanted to improve the overall caliber of alphas, she needed to spend more time around people like Her Highness.

She would follow Her Highness and become her most loyal subject.

"Your Highness, we're both alphas. Wouldn't this be..." inappropriate?

Zishu Zhao covered her mouth. "I've seen you act like this with He Jingyuan too. Isn't she an alpha?"

"You mean Miss? She's just come of age. She's still a child. I was only indulging her..."

The air fell silent. He Yu watched as a glimmer appeared in the Crown Princess's usually unruffled eyes.

"Then indulge me too."

Nope, she couldn't stay at the Crown Princess's residence anymore.

But once He Yu left, she realized the capital was surrounded by wolves. The count was watching her, the archbishop was hunting her down, and behind her was the Crown Princess, waiting for her to indulge her.

Help.

The archbishop was a lunatic too.

He Yu felt that if she didn't get her career going soon, these powerful people would devour her alive.

I'm not here to seduce you. I'm here to join you. No, to overthrow you.

tips:

1. My take on steampunk, with mountains of original worldbuilding and a (fake) everyone-loves-her setup.

2. Female alphas don't have that particular organ.

3. The author has gone dark. This story is pure indulgence, and the protagonist's character is clear: she's a scummy alpha, not a good person.
