[New novel: Polygon, light sci-fi, complex relationships, all-female cast. The leads include a law firm partner, a legal affairs manager, an investor, and more. Please add it to your collection!]
[Before you read]: This novel is a companion piece to my other work, Madman’s Wine. If you’re also interested in Madman’s Wine, I don’t recommend reading this one first. The reason is that after reading Farewell Song, you’ll know some important plot points from Madman’s Wine. If you’re okay with that, go ahead. If not, and you plan to read both, it’s best to read Madman’s Wine first, then Farewell Song.
Blurb:
Is this a story about salvation? Who saved whom? Did they succeed?
Once a celebrated cellist, she spent her entire life learning how to say goodbye to the world. She lived in what she thought was the least noticeable way possible. For ten, twenty, thirty years, she stubbornly followed the creed she had made for herself as a girl, hoping to live a colorless life.
“Indifference means cutting every tie between yourself and the world.”
But the questions she had once avoided finally came back to haunt her. What about someone she had truly fallen in love with, someone she wanted to keep so badly that she would defy every last bit of reason? What if such a person really did come along?
That person said, “You love your cello because you can hold it in your arms, Song Jianqiu. But have you ever held the person you love?”
She used silence to shut out that possibility, masking a shattering upheaval with a resolve as firm as a rock.
It was a time as desolate as a wilderness. With life counting down, all she could do was drink herself into a stupor. On many a midnight, she faced her childhood self and wondered: What is right, and what is wrong?
If you meet someone you love but don’t even dare to hold them, what was the point of coming into this world?
“If... I mean, if
“If even my broken soul can recognize a complete and wholehearted love, if you’re still willing, could you, ”
Her life is a story told backward, beginning with death.
Cellist × bassist (bar owner)

1. This is a companion piece to Madman’s Wine. Song Jianqiu is Song Ci’s aunt in Madman’s Wine.
2. This is a fictionalized modern setting. I’ve tried to research the relevant historical and regional details, but there may still be mistakes. I hope you’ll bear with me.
3. I’m not a professional in the relevant fields, so please point out anything that doesn’t make sense.
Theme: Humanity’s determination to fight hardship is the greatest symphony in the world
She put the other person's hand on her heart. I think she wanted to ask the other person, ah, do you hear my heartbeat? Can you feel my love? Can the love you once said you wanted to be felt in my heartbeat? I just ask you, ask you, can you live well after I leave? She once thought about whether to be the other person's pillar of support, but later she did become the other person's pillar of support. At this moment, I leave, can you still live well without this pillar of support? I explained everything, but I seem a little worried about you. I used to not miss this desolate world, but I think I may have a little nostalgia because of you. The hands she stretched out saved her lover. I think she would be happy about it. I'm glad to meet you, and I'm glad to know your stories. The moment when the farewell song sounds, it's a true farewell.
I have imagined many times, sitting in Boss Shen's tavern, on the day when Song Jianqiu played "Elegy" alone, how she would play this piece, what actions she would take to set up the violin, how far she would set up the bow, how she would vibrate the strings, and in what posture she would embrace the violin. What did she want to talk about and what did she want to express. And why did I choose Faure's "Elegy". I watched her play over and over again from the audience, and even later I couldn't tell whether the person on the stage was her or me. "Elegy" was later used by a French choreographer in a ballet work "Confrontation of Angels", which tells the story of the attraction, pull and self-struggle between the white angel and the black angel. I think this is especially true for Song Jianqiu. In my opinion, Song Jianqiu is actually a very clear person. She is constantly struggling, contradicting herself, and questioning herself. She has set a clear-cut path for herself. She is so reverent of death that she has placed herself on the side of death from the beginning. Others always thought she was indifferent, and she seemed to have acquiesced to this fact. However, how could a musician who could hold the position of the orchestra's leader be emotionally indifferent. As a result, her music and her violin began to speak for her. Saying it was "for her" felt a little loose. Maybe it was them (she and her violin) who wanted to speak. Song Ci said, "How can human nutrition be loneliness?" In fact, I think it can be, loneliness can be used as a kind of nutrition, but loneliness cannot be used as a kind of soil for survival. Human beings are social animals, and no one can be alone. Of course, Song Jianqiu cannot avoid it, so she will hold on to her neighbors, adopt Song Ci, and hold an umbrella for Boss Shen, who was still a stranger at the time (I don't think it was just because of Qin). She thought she was guarding her tightly, but in fact, the road signs she set had already cracked, so her music was telling something, her music was asking for help. The reason why the person who was stuck in the quagmire was pulled up was because she stretched out her arm first. "Elegy" is a piece of music that is led and foreshadowed by cello and piano in stages. In the latter stage, when the piano is the leader, Song Jianqiu is conducting a part that should be a "dialogue" but turns into a "monologue" due to the lack of piano. When she plays the long note alone, when she ends the performance and looks at Boss Shen in the long silence, did you realize that, Song Jianqiu, you actually want to stretch out your arm, in fact, you want to say, "Please save me." So, give me love, teach me love, kiss me, hug me, please see me. This is what Song Jianqiu's violin tells. When I saw Boss Shen's last concert performance, I felt a slight sense of familiarity. Where was it? I watched all the performances over and over again, and finally found the answer in Song Ci's dance. In the butterfly dance across the mountain, I seemed to see the shadow of the bass. Because I watched "Crazy Wine" first and then "Farewell Song", so in chronological order, it should be as early as when Song Ci saw Boss Shen perform for the first time, when Song Ci said "I also want to become an adult like Boss Shen", the heart of mountains and seas had already begun to take root. What kind of person is Shen Weiming? She needs support. In the past, it was her young self, and later it was Song Jianqiu. And after that, compared to Teacher Song, I don't even know what kind of music her bass will perform. I tried to discover something from Shen Weiming's music, but it seemed to be an effort without success. I can only get a glimpse of it from her eyes looking into the abyss. Her music never seems to be conveying anything. Her music gives me a deep feeling of burning myself out and sacrificing myself. Just tonight, just this time, let me die in music, let me fall into the endless abyss. And this feeling will also appear when watching Song Ci dance, let me fall, break me, let me flow away, just blend into the mountains and sea without a trace. Shen Weiming seems to need to hold on to something in order to live. Music is not like dance to Song Ci. I really want to go see Boss Shen live and hear how unbridled her bass is. So at the end, Shen Weiming, when you are in pain, do you also think, "Song Jianqiu, did it hurt so much at the end?" What was your last apology for? Was it for your upcoming departure, or was it for Song Jianqiu's last "just ask you"? In the end, did you ever think of you when you were playing bass on the stage, and were you also saying sorry to yourself? I don't know whether it's because I like music very much, or because I have a soft spot for both cello and bass. I see too much of myself in Song Jianqiu and Shen Weiming, so I will make some unauthorized speculations (apologies). Sometimes you want answers so much that you forget that not having an answer is an answer in itself. Their performances are so charming that sometimes I get very addicted and can't tell whether it is them or me who is playing. At this time, I always need to remind myself to just be an audience member. Thanks to the author for producing such a good work, and thanks to friends for their recommendations. Finally, I hope everyone can enjoy music peacefully and full of emotions. I hope everyone can see themselves and the world through music.
Actually, I didn't think I would like Song Jianqiu when I first watched it. She was indifferent, feeling like everything had nothing to do with her. What story could a person who shuts himself off like this have? It's hard for me to imagine her being irrational. But looking further down, you can already feel her deliberate closure and self-adjustment, like someone who has laid a framework for herself in advance and plans to follow the established path and direction. Because I have watched "Crazy Wine" and know that she also suffers from that disease, I understand her choice to close herself off like this, and I feel a little sad. With such thoughts and curiosity, I was prompted to read on. And Shen Weiming appeared with variables belonging to Song Jianqiu. There is nothing aggressive about her, but she is as omnipresent as air. I think Song Jianqiu didn't "love" Shen Weiming at first, but he must have started to "get used to" her. "Habits" are terrible. The next step after "getting used to it" is "curiosity". In fact, theoretically "curiosity" should be put first, but Song Jianqiu's character makes her always try to push everyone away, so Boss Shen is really great at making her "curious". Maybe it's because Shen Weiming and she both love music? A common hobby and common topic is the easiest way for people to get closer. It's hard to tell when Song Jianqiu "fell in love" with Shen Weiming. But Shen Weiming, I think she fell in love with her after watching the performance, although Shen Weiming may not have noticed this. It is too easy to fall in love with Song Jianqiu, who is excellent, indifferent, and deliberately conceals but cannot conceal the tenderness... Song Jianqiu's life has made me feel very painful. She suffered from internal friction throughout her life. She would even hesitate to hold an umbrella for passers-by, but she would still help the fruit stall owner when danger came. Her kindness and tenderness were always there, but she tried hard not to show it. I can probably understand the feeling of not wanting to have deeper interactions with other people, not because of trouble, but because you are too kind, so you preset the future for a long time, and because you are afraid of other people's sadness, you push away from the beginning. So I guess that when such a person dies, he doesn't want many people to know about it. Maybe she just hoped that a sudden gust of wind would blow and her ashes would be blown away. As expected, she just wanted to die quietly, but unfortunately she didn't succeed. She really hates her dad. Speaking of this, I remembered her message again, "Shen Weiming, in fact, you will never feel consciousness again after you die. It doesn't matter to me. Thank you for your fight for me." I can't control my tear ducts at all. How gentle must I be to remember to comfort and thank you at this moment? In fact, the story is not complicated, there are not many scenes and there are not many characters, but this story really touched me. All human observation is to see oneself through observation. No, you can't say humans, you should say me. All my observations are about seeing myself or imagining myself through observation. I am observing Song Jianqiu, and I am also experiencing the feeling of walking along the established path towards death. I think that's so cool. I also got sick a few years ago, and modern science is so advanced. Although I continue to take medicine, I am healthy again. To be honest, it's a bit regretful. Speaking of Song Jianqiu's reason and restraint. The three scenes that impressed me the most were when I decided to give up on the relationship and walked away without hesitation. One time was when she learned that Shen Weiming was terminally ill and sold her piano collection. The author did not write the details, but I think she did not hesitate. One time was the broken teeth after dying. Even so, he did not let out a cry of pain to worry his lover. And her irrationality, I think, the one time that remains fresh in my memory was when she gave up her persistence and chose to be with Shen Weiming. The other time was when they were in bed, thinking about the book written by Shen Weiming's ex-girlfriend, and the speed increased. I really like Shen Jianqiu, and I really like the way people who are walking on the established path are pulled out of the established path. I don't know how to describe my mood, the writing is messy and unorganized, but if I am good at writing, I will definitely write stories. It is precisely because my writing is not good that I cherish such good stories with good writing and strong storytelling. In fact, I have already read it once during my free time at work, but I always felt that such a good story should not have so many clicks, so I read it again from the beginning, thinking of leaving more comments and giving more praises. Maybe as a reader, this is all I can do. While waiting for the subway, in the elevator commuting to and from work, and while stretching after exercise, I always recall this story. It was so good, like a complete TV series, I just watched their whole life. Sometimes I feel that I am reading too fast, and I deliberately slow down to read it, as if if I read it slower, the ending of the story will not be so regrettable. I like be very much. Saying this may seem like I am a dark person, but I really feel that nine out of ten people are unhappy. A good ending is a gift from God, and God does not give it easily. Therefore, I am very grateful to the author for not letting the story fall into a cliché and for showing enough respect to Song Jianqiu and Shen Weiming. How will people live if they know their own day of death? Song Jianqiu gave a very good example - just live your life with all your strength. I also think it's great that Shen Weiming didn't die for his love! How can one live only for love? Song Jianqiu is Song Jianqiu first, then the chief cellist, and thirdly her other connections in the world: aunt, daughter, and lover. As for Shen Weiming, first of all, Shen Weiming is also involved in many things, including her parents, Song Ci, and her friends. If she had just committed suicide without caring about it, I would have felt that the story fell into "story" again, but she didn't, so this kind of story makes me feel more like the real thing. She just became depressed day after day and slowly died over the years. (I really want to provide her with psychological counseling...) I don't know how to explain it. I always feel that they have really lived in other places that we have not encountered. I talked a lot, and I didn't know what to say. I always felt like I hadn't finished talking, but I didn't know how to say it. I recommended it to my friends and wanted to discuss it with my friends. I also joined the group, but I felt like everyone didn't talk much. I suddenly said, how about we discuss Song Jianqiu? It feels very abrupt, so I can only leave a message for the article. In short, once again, although I am confused and confused, I am really grateful to the author for writing such a story. I admire, admire, feel sorry for, and like Song Jianqiu. I hope she can live more freely in her next life. As for Shen Weiming, maybe it's because I put too much thought into Song Jianqiu and not enough about her, so I wish her the best to meet Song Jianqiu again in her next life. After all, meeting Song Jianqiu is something worth showing off~
I really feel sorry for Boss Shen. Although she looked like a little sunshine before, she could be said to be a ball of dead ashes in her heart. After Song Jianqiu left, she was completely disintegrated. No matter how relieved she was, ugh
I always sigh when reading this article. Putting aside the appearance of Little Sun, it turns out that Shen Weiming has always been the general. She chased the glimmer of light, enduring boundless pain for the fleeting happiness. Perhaps it is precisely because of such rich emotions that she has the creative power of a genius. She can indeed chase and be brave at all costs, but the premise is that there must be that beam of light. I breathed a sigh of relief after reading the main text and before the extra chapter - it's okay, okay, Dao Dao Dao is still beyond chapter twenty, still very far away. But I walked with them little by little and watched them go from being overwhelmed to trying to get closer little by little. They were still cautious and cautious, still had gaps and misunderstandings, and still had many regrets and sadness. I started to worry again. I don't know what I'm anxious about, but I know they don't have much happiness. If there is enough time, they can naturally fit together and be embedded slowly, but it is not enough and it is too late. ——I want to become a pebble, stay in your pocket and never go anywhere. I suddenly found that they seemed to be compatible and should have been leaning against each other. The possessiveness that Song Jianqiu tried so hard to control turned out to be sweet to Shen Weiming. But Song Jianqiu's life is already counting down. When this light will eventually go out, the darkness Shen Weiming will face again will be suffocating like a tide. What should be done? The deeper they are entangled and the deeper their love, the more reluctant and regretful they are when they part. Until the end, they could not redeem each other, and Shen Weiming could not get rid of the pain of loss until the end. As for Song Ci, they never seemed to achieve true reconciliation, and they seemed to always be in the dark. However, many things may be unclear and unsolvable. It is not that pain is gone as imagined, and the pain is not gone. It is not that smiling and saying to cheer up, people can immediately welcome the light. This is indeed BE, but it seems not. Perhaps this is a life of rapid advancement. There is no difference in the reluctance of leaving at the age of forty and leaving at the age of eighty. No matter how many times I think about goodbye, when I lose, I feel like a sea of despair. Because such a deep emotion is a supreme romance, the only regret is that it was too fast, too fast. I hope the two people will meet again and stay together in another time and space, and I hope the author can create freely and be happy.
In my opinion, if there are no difficulties and setbacks, and the brilliance of love is always bright, then how can it have the brilliance of blooming like an epiphyllum? It can only be reduced to a dull thing. However, it is precisely because of the accumulation of things, difficulties and setbacks, and the daily sweetness... That love has the brilliance it has today. I'm glad to know the author, and I'm glad to come across this book. I saw a screenshot of a certain episode of Wuyou, and then I started reading this book. I saw that the comment below was "he" and I started reading it. However, from the tone of the previous article and Sister Jianqiu's statement about her genetic disease, I knew it was just a novel about death. After reading it, I began to think about their first encounter and the grind between them. Together, the ordinary and beautiful daily life between them, and their final ending, I found that they had their persistence. They walked on their own road at first, but by chance, they had some companions around them, and they had more connections. When I saw the ending, I cried for their death, but I was also happy for their progress along the way. I think this ending cannot be simply classified as he Be, it is regrettable to pass away, but you and I share the changes along the way. The farewell song is played. I hope happiness will always be with you.
I finished reading Crazy Wine during the Spring Festival last year. I knew the author had written this book and I kept reading it but didn't dare to read it. I read it in one go in the past two days and burst into tears. See you next book.
From Yu Qing's perspective, I would find it hard to criticize the Song family. The man knows that he has a genetic disease and hides it from his partner to get married and have children, without considering that his offspring will also have genetic diseases. The father-in-law and sister-in-law also allowed this man to get married and have children like this. From my sister-in-law's perspective, it's disgusting.
Oh my god... Song Jianqiu is the pillar that keeps Boss Shen alive. How will Boss Shen survive now that Song is gone?
When Jian Qiu said he was asking Shen, he was only asking her. Was he asking if Shen would live a good life?
