Zhi Huan was married three times in the first half of her life.
The first time, she married her childhood sweetheart, only to become a widow soon after.
The second time, to put a stop to the gossip, she married a young master surnamed Zhao.
The third time, she married the Prince of Qi, whom she fell in love with at first sight.
Only later did Zhi Huan learn that her second husband, the young master Zhao, wasn't actually named Zhao at all. His true identity was the ruler of Wei, the Prince of Qi's younger brother.
On a moonlit night, Huo Yin, Zhi Huan's second husband and now her brother-in-law, cornered her in a secluded part of the imperial garden. His voice was hoarse as he asked her:
"Sister-in-law, is the child in your womb truly not mine?"
Whenever he thought of the night they had spent together, Huo Yin couldn't help frowning.
He had no idea whose child his sister-in-law was carrying.

Huo Yin and the Prince of Qi shared the same mother and were close. They were brothers and ruler and subject, admired by everyone.
One day, however, they both wanted the other to die over a woman.
As a torrential rain fell over the capital, Zhi Huan bent down and begged Huo Yin to spare her husband's life.
Huo Yin held her slender wrist and spoke gently: "I do have a plan, but I'm afraid you won't agree to it, sister-in-law."
*
At first, Huo Yin only wanted Zhi Huan to live happily. He never insisted on becoming her husband.
But longing for her day and night and tossing sleeplessly in bed, he eventually became obsessed, and his obsession became a demon in his heart.
