HP: The Vanished Paw Prints

"From the moment she met him, she knew she would never be free again."

"Later, everything was gradually forgotten after he left."

"You know, she's exactly like you." Remus swallowed a mouthful of fiercely strong firewhisky and drunkenly raised an eyebrow at Sirius.

"The same haughty expression, the same restless agitation toward certain things, and the same weariness that shows up for reasons nobody can explain."

"Though, you know, she's nothing like your relatives."

The bearded man across from him paused. Once his brain had finally processed all that information, he gave an incredulous laugh, deep creases bunching across his face.

"...Don't be ridiculous, Moony." He muttered, rubbing his face hard. The heat of the alcohol in his palm was so intense it nearly made him retch.

"We're from completely different worlds." His lips curled into a mocking smile, as though he were about to list all the ways they differed and disprove this absurd idea.

But he opened his mouth, then closed it. He simply couldn't deny certain things, the obsession and madness buried deep in his bones, just like hers.

A while later, his muffled voice spoke again.

"All right, you're right... You're always right, Moony."

"It ended without ever going anywhere. From then on, Francis could no longer remember the dog who used to circle around her tail."
