His Little Rose

At seventeen, Su Qiao's father died unexpectedly.

The girl, raised in comfort from childhood, suddenly became an orphan.

The first time Gu Jiansen saw Su Qiao, she was standing in the teachers' office, staring blankly out the window, her gaze empty and lifeless.

She held her school uniform jacket behind her back. Her frame was slight, her arms thin, and her tender, pale skin was mottled with purple bruises. Her whole being seemed to be wilting.

Su Qiao looked back at him and forced the corners of her mouth up. "Teacher, my uncle is here."

Twenty-seven-year-old Gu Jiansen nodded and accepted the title.

Over two years of living together, Gu Jiansen took good care of Su Qiao.

Under his care, Su Qiao grew more and more radiant, receiving countless gifts and love letters.

"Qiaoqiao." For who knew how many times, Gu Jiansen took a big bouquet of flowers from her hands. "You're still young. You can't date."

Su Qiao lowered her eyes and stared at the hand holding the flowers.

It was long and strong, and had touched her burning forehead when she'd had a fever.

"Does that mean I can't date you either?" she asked, as if possessed.

"You can't."

Later, Su Qiao ran into Gu Jiansen again at a welcome-home banquet, after a long separation.

He was even more taciturn than before, but crossed the crowd and, in full view of everyone, draped his suit jacket over her shoulders.

"Sorry, Qiaoqiao can't drink. Let me take her place."

"..."

Gu Jiansen still seemed to think of her as a child with no one to look after her.

At last, after it happened again and again, Su Qiao couldn't take it anymore. "Gu Jiansen, I've grown up. I don't need anyone to take care of me."

Gu Jiansen rubbed her swollen ankle, sore from wearing high heels, and smiled. "I know. I think you need a boyfriend."
