Song Atuan and Yue Niang, the daughter brought home by his stepmother, got engaged on the same day.

He was matched with a poor scholar, while Yue Niang was promised to a wealthy hunter.

In this life, she would switch places and insist on marrying the poor scholar.

Song Atuan had no objections. The hunter was handsome and came from a wealthy family. The poor scholar had been specially chosen for him by his stepmother, and he'd heard that the scholar's mother was unpleasant, too.

Song Atuan happily married the hunter. He ate well and dressed well, and the hunter, Huo Yuanshan, knew how to treat him right. His father was kind, and so were his older brother and sister-in-law. Song Atuan was cherished and cared for.

Years later,

The poor scholar passed the county-level exam but repeatedly failed the higher ones, while Song Atuan became the husband of a general...
