The day before her entrance exams, Kamimi Maho's classmate asked her to pray for good luck at a shrine. Somehow, she ended up bound to a broken stone statue of a god on the mountain and had to help him recover his lost tokens.
After learning that she couldn't break the bond until the statue had recovered all its tokens and regained its power, Kamimi Maho rubbed her hands together, eager to get something out of the deal.
Kamimi Maho: Do you know the chief deity at Tenmangu Shrine? Could you make me get perfect scores in every subject on tomorrow's exam?
Statue: (Silence)
Kamimi Maho: What about Benzaiten? I want to get rich!
Statue: (Silence)
Kamimi Maho was disappointed.
It seemed the god inside the statue wasn't doing too well in heaven. Otherwise, he wouldn't have ended up with not a single believer, buried in a pile of roadside stones and covered in moss.
Then one day, shadows filled the school, and twisted monsters clawed their way out of the mud. One after another, creatures beyond human imagination appeared.
The token hanging around Kamimi Maho's neck suddenly began to shine. The statue granted his only believer the power to save the world.
Looking at herself, her hair now golden, six wings on her back, and holy light radiating from her entire body, Kamimi Maho finally understood.
So it was a Western statue of a god! I had the whole pantheon mixed up!
