An older, sunny Thai sweetheart of a star x a younger, cool and taciturn Hong Kong businessman
1. The beloved top-tier actor of Thailand, known to the public and media as the very embodiment of gentleness and virtue. But more widely known than Nanyang's status as a star is her aristocratic surname, Supara, belonging to a top-tier family that has stood for a hundred years.
Though she was born into a collateral branch, orphaned young, and adopted by the main family, she was sent into show business as a public face for the family's distinguished image. Beneath the mask, though, she's lively, cheerful, affectionate, always full of energy, and a firm believer in living for today.
A grand wedding, a marriage of convenience for business interests. Nanyang considers it no more than gaining a dinner companion.
On their wedding night, she overhears her younger husband saying he has to return to Hong Kong to deal with an urgent matter. She gets a servant to prop a ladder against the wall, planning to climb out the window and go street racing with her best friend.
Who knew she'd be caught red-handed as soon as she climbed the ladder?
Seeing the ladder wobble, Fu Xueqing frowns and leans out. As Nanyang cries out in surprise, he lifts her down safely, taking care to keep her from bumping into the window.
Looking at him, she thinks he's not as cold and heartless as the rumors suggest. He's more like a steady, dependable mountain. Good. It seems they can at least treat each other with respect.
Until one day, she accidentally walks through the wrong door and sees Fu Xueqing sitting with his eyes lowered on the sofa, while the whole room echoes with his birth mother's abuse of him during a media interview.
There is no anger or grievance, and not a tear falls. But she feels that mountain crumbling silently, bit by bit, until it lies in pieces.
In that moment, Nanyang completely forgets the rule that a marriage of convenience must never become love. She strides over, covers Fu Xueqing's ears, and a bright springtime smile blooms at the corners of her lips.
"Should we try dating?"
2. Fu Xueqing, the youngest son of Hong Kong's richest man, is also the most accomplished heir produced by the Fu family's elite education. He's taciturn and so calm and rational that he's as cold and desireless as snow-covered frost.
The Hong Kong media call him a supreme practitioner of the Path of Ruthlessness: he drove out his birth mother and sent his older brother to prison.
Perhaps his growing business empire made others jealous. An explosion and collision while he was inspecting the docks cost him some of his memories. Since then, a blind woman with her eyes covered has appeared in his dreams.
Before he has a chance to investigate, his grandfather sends him to Thailand to get married. His future wife is a proper young lady whose smile looks as if it were measured with a ruler.
Fu Xueqing covers the photo of his arranged bride on the table with a document, his still eyes turning cold. It's just an act. He only has to play his part. If his wife ever finds true love, he can let her go freely, as long as the family's interests are protected.
But later, she says she wants to leave. All his restraint and promises turn to ashes.
Fu Xueqing lies across her lap, his frantic eyes full of dependence. The man who used to be reserved and restrained now asks her in a soft, red-eyed voice, "I want you to stay. I want you to love me."
