Qing Ning transmigrates into Niohuru, Kangxi's second empress.
Although she gets the role of empress, she has less than half a year left to live. (A truly disastrous start!)
Luckily, she unexpectedly binds to a system called the Great Qing Empress System. As long as she fulfills her duties as empress, she can at least cling to life for now.
Why not be a hard-working, dutiful empress who does everything required of her, except attend to Kangxi?
Whenever Kangxi visits Qing Ning, she is always so frail she coughs as if she might breathe her last. Kangxi thinks his charisma must be overwhelming, since his empress gets more excited every time she sees him.
For the sake of her health, he ought to visit less often!
As soon as Kangxi leaves, Qing Ning sits bolt upright, though she was supposedly on her deathbed, elegantly holding a glass of red wine as she throws a party in Kunning Palace with a bunch of boys.
"Yinzhi, fetch me the plum wine from the table!"
"Baocheng's giant earthworm drawing looks so real!"
"What? That's a dragon? It's fine, it looks much better than last time!"
"Baoqing did ten push-ups! No wonder he's the strongest man in the Forbidden City!"
"Yinzhen is getting better and better at crawling!"
Kangxi thinks Kunning Palace is always noisy, with a tremendous racket, and his sons keep running over there too.
Kangxi summons his sons and interrogates them with a dark expression, but the boys are teary-eyed and answer in unison.
"Imperial Father, we really are just visiting Imperial Mother!"
"Imperial Mother's health still hasn't improved. Your sons are so worried!"
"Your son is so scared that if we don't keep Imperial Mother company now, we might never get to see her again!"
Seeing how heartfelt and filial the boys are, Kangxi believes them without a second thought and even starts crying along with them.
But the noise from Kunning Palace grows louder and louder, clanging and banging as if they are about to tear down the palace.
Kangxi grows more and more suspicious.
Could Kunning Palace be... haunted?
Bonus scene:
One day, while they are having a grand old time, Kangxi suddenly launches a raid and pushes straight through the door.
Qing Ning and all the children are dumbstruck, but little Yinzhen still toddles forward on trembling legs, sticks out his round little belly, and plants his hands on his hips in front of Qing Ning.
Kangxi, the self-absorbed one, slowly steps closer and gazes at Qing Ning with deep affection.
"No wonder Kunning Palace seemed so strange. So the empress has been playing hard to get with me!"
Qing Ning: ...
#Kangxi can't compare to the little boys#
#Being a dowager empress sounds much more comfortable than being an empress#

★★Coming soon: The Consort Ding's Guide to Slacking Her Way to Promotion
As one of the longest-lived consorts of the Kangxi era, Wan Liuha Fuying only wants to eat, drink, and lie flat, staying as far away from imperial favor as possible.
She was already quite old when she was finally made a consort. Surely Kangxi would barely remember she existed.
Even her sister Wuyashi, who entered the palace with her and was always ambitious, often scolded her: "You're far too unmotivated!"
But Fuying unexpectedly binds to a dragon energy system. Collecting dragon energy can not only ensure a long life, but also let her exchange it for treasures unavailable in this era!
The palace is full of dragon energy, making it the perfect place to build up her strength and live a long life.
So the little palace maid Fuying keeps to the sidelines, waiting to become a carefree senior maid and live a long, happy life in the Qing palace.
Even so, she still doesn't dare get too close to Kangxi. A tiny bit of dragon energy from the corner is enough for her.
Later, she discovers that staying close to little Yinzhen also makes her dragon energy shoot up.
And so, she starts stealing children in a bright yellow sack!
Yinzhen lost his mother when he was young. His imperial father is loving, but strict with him, often leaving the little boy unable to catch his breath. But the palace maid Wan Liuha always has new and interesting things for him, opening a little window in his otherwise dreary life.
Fuying looks at little Yinzhen, all chubby and baby-faced, kicking all four limbs, and grins from ear to ear.
She can practically see a longevity elixir flailing about right in front of her.
She never imagined that Kangxi would suddenly appear while she was teaching Yinzhen how to play Go-Moku!
Fuying lies prostrate on the ground, trembling with fear. Kangxi looks down at her with an imposing, meaningful gaze.
Fuying thinks her life is over, but instead she hears Kangxi decree that she be made a Noble Lady.
Fuying sighs. There's no escaping fate.
But the further she stays from imperial favor, the better.
So! When Kangxi comes by, Fuying looks terribly weak. As soon as he leaves, she grabs a giant chicken leg!
But she never expects Kangxi to come back, his face dark.
As Fuying trembles, thinking her time has come, Kangxi instead breaks into a smile and looks at her calmly.
"My beloved consort, how should the crime of deceiving the emperor be punished?"
Fuying rises steadily through the ranks, earning promotions and a higher salary, until she reaches a position she never would have dared dream of.
What happened to staying unnoticed?
No! She only wanted to live a little longer!
Could being too favored shorten her life?
Fuying worries to herself.
