Her best friend is so shocked she thinks Jiang Chi has put a spell on Fang Yang.

2. Apart from her mother, Fang Yang has never cared so much about anyone else.
If Jiang Chi is thirsty, Fang Yang gets her water. If she's hungry, Fang Yang brings her a late-night snack. If she's tired, Fang Yang carries her backpack. When Jiang Chi's lips turn down, Fang Yang spends the whole day fretting, wondering if something has upset her, then tries every way she can think of to make her smile.
At first, Jiang Chi doesn't understand. Later, she does.
Then one day, on her day off, she takes Fang Yang hiking in the park. Kicking pebbles along the way, she finally talks it through with her.
"Neither of us has a dad, one of us has no mom, and we're both girls. It wouldn't work."
Fang Yang's thought process is unlike anyone else's. "You're being discriminatory."
Jiang Chi is speechless. "I'm not discriminating!"
Fang Yang: "Then you don't like me?"
Jiang Chi: "…"
"If you don't like me, why do you come see me every day? If you don't like me, why let me hold your hand? If you don't like me, why wear my clothes?" Fang Yang lifts her chin and leans close to Jiang Chi's ear. "Jiang Chi, are you trying to psychologically manipulate me?"
3. When they meet again, seven years have passed.
Jiang Chi looks at Fang Yang sitting on a park bench. Her features are delicate and regular, and she's still wearing the T-shirt Jiang Chi gave her.
In an instant, Jiang Chi feels a thin thread wrap around her heart and pull tight, hurting terribly.
Their eyes meet.
Fang Yang jumps to her feet, gritting her teeth until her jaw aches. "What do you want from me?"
A familiar, powerful aura rushes toward Jiang Chi. Her heart contracts, and her shoulders tremble. She looks at the furrowed brows of the woman before her, and the usually cool, aloof girl turns red-eyed in an instant. "I want us to be together."

Jiang Chi comes out of the bathroom wearing Fang Yang's white T-shirt, her legs gleaming like ivory chopsticks.
She nudges Fang Yang's leg. Fang Yang can't bear to look and shifts aside.
Jiang Chi doesn't sit anywhere else. She sits right on Fang Yang's lap.
"Have you lost your mind?!"
"Do you still mean what you said?"
"What did I say?"
"You said you'd make me cry. I haven't cried."
