Also known as: Married First, Fell in Love Later with the Actress
Blurb:
On the night of her twenty-second birthday, Ye Yi went to the Twilight bar with friends to celebrate. Half-drunk and half-awake, she asked her childhood friend to take her home.
But in her hazy state, the face she saw wasn't her friend's. It was the face of her idol, Chu Ziqing, the best actress.
She threw her arms around her and kissed her on the cheek.
The next morning, Ye Yi was still feeling delighted before she even opened her eyes. She had actually dreamed that she'd kissed her idol! But when she opened her eyes, she found a woman lying in her bed, and the woman's face was the same one she'd seen in her "dream."
Just then, Chu Ziqing woke up.
Seeing the red mark on the other woman's neck, Ye Yi declared, "I'll take responsibility."
Chu Ziqing touched the spot where a mosquito had bitten her, pondered for a moment, then nodded.
Ye Yi had barely returned home when she was taken to a hotel, before she even had a chance to tell her mother what had happened.
"Yi Yi, a few years ago, I found you a fiancée. You two are meeting at noon today. If you like each other, get your marriage license as soon as possible."
What! A fiancée? Was this a joke?
She'd lived for twenty-two years and had never known she had a fiancée.
She wouldn't meet her, and she wouldn't marry her. She had to take responsibility for her idol.
Furious, Ye Yi turned to leave. As soon as she opened the door, she saw Chu Ziqing.
"Didn't you say you'd take responsibility? Why are you leaving?"
She held out her hand, her eyes gentle. "Yi Yi, let me introduce myself properly. I'm your fiancée, Chu Ziqing."
When Chu Ziqing was eighteen, she saw a photo of Ye Yi on her mother's phone. Back then, she didn't know Ye Yi was her fiancée. She just thought the girl was quite pretty.
At twenty-two, Chu Ziqing heard news of Ye Yi from her mother: Yi Yi had gotten into the best high school in the city.
At twenty-five, Chu Ziqing not only won the Best Actress award that year, but also learned that Yi Yi had been accepted into the directing program at one of the country's top media universities. And she learned that Yi Yi was her fiancée.
From then on, she often kept tabs on her little fiancée, learning about her now and then from the school website or from her own mother. Gradually, she began to feel that having Yi Yi as her fiancée might not be so bad.
Four years later, Yi Yi graduated from university, and it was time to honor their engagement.
[Extra Scene]
On the show I'm a Director, the production team asked Ye Yi: "Xiao Ye, what do you think about people online saying that the lead's silhouette in Lover looks like Best Actress Chu?"
Ye Yi: "They're right. I think it looks a lot like her, too."
Chu family fans: "Our Qingqing is off-limits. Ye, don't drag her into this."
Not long afterward, a reporter asked Chu Ziqing: "Best Actress Chu, have you seen the short film Lover?"
Chu Ziqing: "I have. It's very well made. I like it a lot."
Ye family fans: "See? See? Your actress says she likes it, too."
Then, after Ye Yi became famous for the short film Lover, she held a livestream to give her fans a treat. Everyone noticed that her background was exactly the same as the one in Best Actress Chu's livestream a little while earlier...
P.S. This is a fluffy, completely brainless romance. If you spot a plot hole, reread the first half of this sentence. [Important, Important]
1. Married first, fell in love later; seven-year age gap; they take turns being on top, with the older one usually leading; same-sex marriage is legal in this setting.
2. Chu Ziqing's parents only tell her that Yi Yi is her fiancée once Yi Yi is an adult. (I don't really like the trope where someone knows from an early age that the other person is their fiancée, starts watching over them when they're little, and marries them when they grow up. It feels like a romance-novel cliché. Besides, when Chu Ziqing was younger, she didn't understand what liking someone or being in love meant.)
3. When they get married, Yi Yi only likes Qingqing as a fan likes her idol, while Qingqing only has some fondness for Yi Yi and doesn't dislike her. Neither of them is in love with the other yet. A true married-first, fell-in-love-later story.
4. I set things up this way because I don't think Chu Ziqing would fall for Ye Yi based on secondhand news alone.
