I'll Spoil You, Then

Everyone in Qixia Town, young and old, knows that Liu Qier, who runs the tavern, has a tongue that can charm anyone.

One day, a dispirited young scholar came into her shop. Seeing how handsome he was, Liu Qier plied him with drink and seized the chance to touch his face.

She coaxed him, saying that if she ever made it big, she would send eight palanquins to bring him home as her husband.

At the time, an obtuse matchmaker came to Liu Qier's door to propose a match. Liu Qier had an employee chase her away with a big broom while shouting,

"Go on, get out of here! I won't marry anyone, unless Cui Yanbai of the Cui family comes to ask for my hand. Then I might consider it."

Everyone burst out laughing.

Cui Yanbai was a young master of the Cui family of Luohe, as untouchable as the moon in the sky or a flower on a mountaintop.

Someone repeated Liu Qier's words as a joke in the Cui family residence. When the elegant, radiant young Master Cui heard them, he smiled faintly, then calmly said, "Very well. Send someone to propose, then."

Liu Qier: Impossible. Absolutely impossible. I must have drunk too much and started seeing things.

Cui Yanbai: What? You plied me with liquor and touched my face. Now you're trying to get out of it?
