Zhongli Yue spent ten years as a police officer, nine of them undercover.
After years of enduring hardship, she was preparing to take down a drug den when someone attacked her from behind. She died, and when she woke again, she had become Zhongli Yue of the Huanyuan Continent, complete with a good-for-nothing reputation and a letter calling off her engagement.
On this strange otherworldly continent, humans, demons, and monsters could embark on a long path of cultivation once they succeeded in drawing qi into their bodies. There were countless professions here: alchemists, weapon refiners, rune masters... but beast summoners stood above them all.
The Zhongli family was a renowned summoner clan in the Eastern Rampart. Yet the original Zhongli Yue, a direct-line daughter who was still only at the Qi-Drawing stage at fifteen, had brought shame upon them all. After her parents died in battle, everyone was eager to disown her, so they cast her out to a branch family to fend for herself.
Zhongli Yue: "..."
The setup has everything: a good-for-nothing and a broken engagement. Don't tell me there's also a wise old man living inside me?
She tentatively examined her inner domain. There was no old man, but she did find a copy of the world's most coveted treasure, the Beast-Taming Manual. Ordinary beast summoners could form contracts with at most three beasts, but those who cultivated the manual could make contracts without limit!
Before she could learn anything else, the rickety thatched hut was kicked open by the branch family's most unhinged bully.
"Zhongli Yue, and you came from the main family? How can you live in such a filthy dump? Kneel before me, and I'll toss you a few silver coins!"
Zhongli Yue rose with a cold look and grabbed a broken stool, smashing it over his head.
The original owner had been timid and cowardly. She was not.
So what if things looked bleak from the start and everyone avoided her? Given a second chance, she would carve out her own bright path. She had spent nine years undercover. Cultivation was nothing by comparison. If she was going to cultivate, she would climb to the highest peak and stand shoulder to shoulder with the blazing sun and the cold moon!
