1. On his way home after basketball practice, Akashi Seijuro was suddenly abducted by something called the System.
It claimed to be high-tech, responsible for connecting one world to another. Before he could react, it eagerly threw him into a spatial rift.
When he opened his eyes again, the System told him something had gone wrong with the transmigration and it had sent him to the wrong place. It couldn't take him back yet. It would need some time to gather enough energy and recover.
For now, the day he could return was nowhere in sight.

2. He seemed to have landed in a world that looked modern, but had some rather fantastical elements.
Here, monsters called Curses were born from people's negative emotions, and a mysterious group called Jujutsu Sorcerers fought against them.
The System told him that to gather energy, he couldn't just sit around waiting. He would have to fight those monsters too, earning a little energy for every one he eliminated.
Akashi: So how am I supposed to fight Curses?
The System said its data package had been corrupted during transmigration, so it didn't know either.
3. After discovering that he could see Curses on his classmates, Akashi began figuring out how to eliminate them and gather energy.
System: When someone from another world enters a new world, they undergo certain changes to suit their surroundings. The specific changes depend on their personal traits.
Akashi felt that this change might be the key to his ability to eliminate Curses.
He began thinking hard about what his traits might be, searching through his memories from birth all the way to the basketball practice he'd been doing just before he was transported to this world.
Wait, basketball practice?
His head suddenly started spinning.
When he came to, he found a glowing basketball in his hand, and an entire memory that didn't belong to him had appeared in his mind.
So it was activated by a trigger.
The memory told him that hitting a Curse with the basketball would let him attack it. So his ability was to conjure glowing basketballs out of thin air?
Well, he could make more than one.
Anyway, he'd better work hard to eliminate these monsters, gather enough energy, and get home soon.

Most of the story takes place in Jujutsu Kaisen.
