During the holiday before starting ninth grade, Fujiwara Saki picked up her new pet at an utterly ordinary Tokyo train station, bringing two new sparks of life into her quiet home.
The new pet claimed a lot of Fujiwara Saki's attention. The family's former favorite, their large Alaskan Malamute Ritai, reluctantly accepted his presence.
The new pet was a handful and needed more affection. He was big and needed more space than Ritai, but when it came to eating, he often needed Fujiwara Saki to keep an eye on him.
Still, the new pet had plenty of advantages. For one, the house felt livelier, and at last they could finish their multiplayer games.
For another, when she went out, Ritai in front and a one-meter-ninety giant behind her gave her an imposing presence.
Of course, the new pet might be a handful, but he was very well-behaved. He would eat even the new dishes she tried making, however unappetizing they looked, and give her a thoughtful review.
So perhaps falling in love with the pet she'd been raising for a year wasn't entirely without precedent?
