I Won a Place on the Heartless Path, Then Won Over My Senior Brother

They say the Heartless Dao is where you end up if you fail to cultivate at Jiangjiang, while the path goes awry at Tangtang. Unfortunately for Miao Cancan, she was an ignorant young girl who stumbled straight into the Heartless Dao department at Jiangjiang Sect.

Jiangjiang Sect is one of the top sects in the cultivation world, with departments for the Heartless Dao, Dual Cultivation, Benevolent Dao, and Ghost Dao.

Apart from the Ghost Dao department, which only accepts ghost cultivators, the other three departments admit cultivators from all sorts of popular disciplines, including sword cultivation, gu cultivation, alchemy, and beast taming.

After twelve years of hard study, Miao Cancan had finally made it in. Excited, she posted a question on Heavenly Dao Zhihu.

"May I ask all you senior brothers and sisters, which discipline at Jiangjiang Sect is best?"

For context, I'm interested in Miao Gu cultivation. I heard the Heartless Dao department has a high ascension rate. Is that true?

Anonymous answer: @Head of the Heartless Dao Department, admissions has a new prospect.

Anonymous answer: Heartless Dao...? Why would you come to Jiangjiang Sect to cultivate the Heartless Dao? You should turn left and go to the neighboring DianDian.

Anonymous answer: The Heartless Dao department has always had a pretty high graduation rate, right? Don't discourage this junior sister. Come join us in the Heartless Dao! Guaranteed to reach Spirit Severing in twenty years and Great Ascension in forty. If you're lucky, we can even guarantee your ascension to immortality~

Anonymous answer: Junior sister, don't listen to that person bragging. Their Heartless Dao department is famous for its high failure rate. Come to our Dual Cultivation department instead, and big sister will teach you how to play with men~

Original poster's reply: Thank you, big sister from the Dual Cultivation department, but I've always cultivated the Supreme Forgetfulness path, so I'd still rather join the Heartless Dao department. Is Miao Gu cultivation popular there?

Anonymous answer: Um... If you're not afraid of bugs, it's actually not bad. The Heartless Dao department has the most resources in the sect, so as long as your grades are good, you won't have to worry about a shortage of resources like caves and secret realms.

Original poster's reply: That's wonderful! Thank you, senior sister!

Miao Cancan put away her water mirror, thoroughly satisfied. She had firmly chosen the Miao Gu discipline in the Heartless Dao department, but had no idea yet just how much she would regret it.

Jiang Yi was the senior disciple of the sword cultivation discipline in the Heartless Dao department, as well as a direct disciple of Jiangjiang Sect. He had always believed in Supreme Forgetfulness, holding to the idea that only those who knew love could forget it. So he took on the important task of guiding the new disciples into the sect.

But after presiding over the initiation ceremony, he received a water-mirror message that left him speechless.

[The Little White Snake Studying Miao Gu]: Greetings, senior brother!

[The Little White Snake Studying Miao Gu]: Senior sister says you have amazing eight-pack abs. Can can need (beckons with a finger)

Jiang Yi's brows, which hadn't moved in a thousand years, twitched ever so slightly. His fingers, however, honestly sent over a photo of his abs.

[AAA Admissions Consultation]: Are you one of this year's new disciples?

Miao Cancan looked at the message on her water mirror without noticing anything strange about it, and immediately gave up the senior sister from the Dual Cultivation department.

At that moment, the senior sister had just realized she'd accidentally sent the water-mirror contact key of the Heartless Dao department's senior disciple to Miao Cancan, mistaking it for the contact key of a senior brother from the Dual Cultivation department, who used his body to help fellow disciples learn to forget their feelings. She broke out in a cold sweat, hurriedly ducked into an unoccupied secret realm, and sealed its entrance.

Before leaving, she still remembered to send Miao Cancan a message.

[You Don't Understand My Charms]: Junior sister, your senior sister has landed in big trouble and needs to go into seclusion for ten years. Don't come looking for me until you've ascended!

It wasn't until Miao Cancan and Jiang Yi both received failing grades and the sect leader lectured them in anguish that she finally understood what that comment under her Heavenly Dao Zhihu post had meant: "Cultivating the Heartless Dao at Jiangjiang Sect is no different from courting death."
