The Saintly Beauty in the Apocalypse

Lan Jia'ai was gentle, sincere, and beautiful. He was the first love and unattainable dream of many.

He was kind and pure, with a heart so full of compassion it overflowed. He also happened to have plenty of time and money, so he often volunteered for environmental causes, adopted stray animals, sponsored underprivileged children through school, and anonymously donated the exorbitant cost of surgery for a junior student.

The junior was named Lu Shi. A fire had taken all his family, and he had been on the brink of death himself. He'd barely survived, only to be left horribly disfigured, someone everyone shunned. Lan Jia'ai was the only one who didn't reject him, and even went out of his way to befriend him.

But Lu Shi never believed Lan Jia'ai's kindness was genuine. He refused to let him get close, treating him harshly and speaking to him coldly.

Until the night the apocalypse broke out. Lan Jia'ai shoved him out of danger to save him, then disappeared into a boundless horde of zombies.

At last, Lu Shi realized that Lan Jia'ai had truly been kind to him.

And he went completely mad.

Lan Jia'ai came back from the dead with a special ability.

He didn't age or die. Even when gravely injured, he felt no pain, only sleepy. After a nap, his body would be completely healed, and each time he woke, he would find himself in a random new place.

With no fear of death, Lan Jia'ai's compassionate nature flared up again, and he did everything he could to help everyone he met.

He would cut his wrist and feed his blood to someone nearly dying of thirst.

He would give away his last bit of food to others and urge them to keep fighting to survive.

He even used himself as live bait to lure away hordes of zombies.

Every time, his attempt to help ended in the most horrific way. The next moment, Lan Jia'ai would appear somewhere new, content, and continue helping those in need.

He really did save a lot of people.

And drove a lot of people mad.

They loved him, yet had to watch him die horrible deaths with their own eyes. The nightmarish scenes tormented them over and over, trapping them forever in a living hell.

Lu Shi was the maddest of them all.

Seven years had passed. Now he had everything: power, influence, status, and a handsome face. But he had lost Lan Jia'ai, and being alive was worse than death.

His ability had corrupted him, giving him auditory hallucinations. A voice kept telling him, "Lan Jia'ai isn't dead."

Lu Shi believed it. He searched the whole world for Lan Jia'ai, and actually found him. But he was mad now, and could no longer tell whether the person in front of him was real or just a hallucination.

He saw Lan Jia'ai embrace a boy who had lost both legs and gently say, "It's okay. I'll stay with you."

Just as Lan Jia'ai had once said to him.

A saintly heart loves all the world.

They, and Lu Shi, are all just part of that world.
